Job description

In this vital role, you'll be responsible for the safe and efficient navigation and operation of vessels, transportation of passengers and crew in accordance with the requirements of Amity Traders SMS and standard company policies. The role is 4 days on and 4 days off depending on operational needs.
Your duties will include (but will not be limited to):
Operating vessels as the Master in command in a safe, efficient and effective manner;
Ensuring service meets customer and regulatory requirements;
Assisting Amity Trader to establish, document, implement and maintain a quality SMS system;
Implementing Amity Trader safety and environmental protection policies;
Maintaining proficiency of the general arrangements, handling and control systems on board vessels;
Conducting formal vessel inspections covering safety equipment and general quality presentation of passenger/crew areas and facilities; and
Compiling reports and providing advice to Amity Trader’s management regarding shipboard activities.
The vessel Master must be able to demonstrate an understanding of, and experience working with, an integrated safety management system. You will have a strong knowledge of appropriate Acts and Statutory Regulations applicable to ferry operations and associated government legislation (or the ability to quickly acquire this knowledge). In addition, you'll have experience operating vessels that are equivalent to those currently operated by Amity Trader.
You will be a proven leader with training and coaching skills, who can build and maintain strong collaborative working relationships with management and staff at all levels. You'll utilise your analytical and problem-solving skills daily to assess the day to day operation of vessel and staff management, as well as your strong interpersonal skills to direct and manage crew members.
You will need to be a team player with a demonstrated commitment to high quality customer service. Effective planning and time management skills are essential and will ensure safe journey outcomes and on-time running of vessels. The position requires shift work, weekend work and work on public holidays.
You must maintain the required certifications:
Certificate of Competency (Master up to 45m Near Coastal)
Marine Engine Driver Grade 3 Near Coastal
Drivers Licence
First Aid
