We are currently seeking a safety conscious, qualified Mechanical Fitter to join our team in the Mechanical Overhaul & Fabrication business unit.
The successful candidate will be based in Gladstone and will be responsible for the fit and alignment of mechanical equipment, including Pulveriser rebuilds, hydraulics, pumps, and piping associated with project or maintenance activities within heavy industry.
Role Responsibilities- Install and align process pumps, equipment, platework, conveyors and coal pulverisers
- Groove or thread pipe as required.
- Preassemble chutes and mechanical equipment prior to installation when required.
- Take adequate care and responsibility for the safeguard of mechanical equipment against damage.
- Assist with commissioning as required.
- Perform work during programmed shutdowns for upgrades and modifications to the existing operational plant.
- Ensure quality standards are maintained and discuss any issues or concerns with Supervisor.
- Plan work by interpreting site plans to identify any potential hazards and to meet the daily work schedule set by Supervisor(s) and/or Project Superintendent.
- Regularly Inspect equipment for possible damage, ensure relevant approval tags are fitted and report any concerns or non-conformances to Supervisors and/or Project Superintendent(s).
- Overhaul of mechanical components including milling and machining
- Ensure correct equipment is used for its intended purposes.
- Ensure relevant work permits are in place before commencing work.
- Actively participate in any project specific training programs, and other programs which support achievement of project goals.
- Identify potential hazards to Supervisor(s) or Project Superintendent.
- Isolate relevant working areas by practical means, e.g., barricades, communication notices, and advise other employees to indicate to others that work is in progress.
- Participate in the preparation of Job Safety Analysis (JSA) and Start/Restart processes.
We are seeking candidates with Mechanical Fitter / Machinist trade qualifications, 3-5 years of industry experience, ability to read drawings, basic welding skills, and relevant licenses and certifications such as Forklift, Elevated Work Platform, Confined Space Entry, and Working at Heights. Experience in metal trades or construction industries is preferred, along with knowledge of threading machines and oxy cutting.
- Trade qualifications in Mechanical Fitting/Machining
- 3-5 years of relevant industry experience
- Ability to read technical drawings
- Basic welding experience.
- Forklift License.
- Elevated Work Platform qualifications.
- Confined Space Entry qualifications.
Working under guidance from the Workshop Manager and Project Supervisors you will possess the ability to form meaningful psychologically safe team relationships and still be able to work unsupervised and manage your own time as required. This role will include supervision and mentoring of apprentices and TA’s to support your workload.
