The Role:
- Design, promote and carry out preventative maintenance on plant machinery and equipment.
- Respond to emergency breakdowns.
- Involvement with new design, installation and movements of existing machines and equipment.
- Overhaul and repair of machines and equipment.
- Ensure machines and equipment are safe, working efficiently and fit for purpose, undertaking general mechanical servicing and repair works on plant, machinery and equipment.
- Examine faulty machinery and equipment for repair.
- Read, interpret and diagnose faults from electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic schematics.
- Read and interpret manuals and software to identify spare parts, Guide and assist in the instruction, training and development of apprentices and labour hire within the maintenance team.
- Operate all heavy machinery in a safe and efficient way according to all relevant legislation, policies and procedures.
- Perform daily safety and maintenance checks.
- Perform manual labor in construction and maintenance projects.
- Provide a high quality customer service to both internal and external customers.
- Participate in shift handover to ensure all safety and operational requirements are received and understood.
- Clean equipment as scheduled and/ or required.
- Ensure equipment is safely and securely stored when not in use.
- Performs manual labour tasks as and when required to assist in continued productivity of yard operations.
- Actively participate in any continuous improvement activities.
- Report issues with equipment to yard manager and group maintenance manager
- Ensure contractors are working efficiently and within time schedule
- Ensure costs are regularly checked with suppliers
To be successful you must possess the following:
- Trade qualification (Cert III and two years of on-job- training OR Cert IV or higher in relevant field.
- Minimum 3-5 years’ experience required to substitute the above qualification.
- High Risk Work Licenses
- Proven experience in Metal, Manufacturing or Mining Industry on heavy Fixed/Mobile plant equipment for a minimum of two years post Apprenticeship.
- Proven experience working on fixed/Mobile plant including Excavators, Trucks/Trailers, mills and conveyor systems
- Proven understanding of Work Health and Safety legislation
- Knowledge of operational characteristics of a variety of heavy equipment
- Knowledge of maintenance requirements of heavy equipment
- Proven experience performing a variety of skilled construction and maintenance tasks
- Proven experience performing a variety of manual tasks
- Clear communication skills, proven ability to convey information in both verbal and written formats as appropriate for the needs of the target audience
- Interpersonal skills, proven ability to develop rapport with others and form working relationships, listen effectively, manage conflict, understand human motivation, understand and respect cultural difference and have a global focus on interpersonal skills
- Clear problem solver, proven ability to understand and deal with difficult questions or situations, apply logic or reasoning to review information, identify problems and their causes, evaluate options and select the best solution
- The motivation to operate in a trusted, self-directed role
- Experience undertaking safety checks on plant equipment - including lock out / tag out
- Pump maintenance experience; conventional, submersible, grinders, mono and cavity
- Understanding and application of leading policies and procedures
- Drivers licence essential
