About the role

QLS has a full-time opportunity for a Senior Media and External Affairs Advisor. The successful candidate will report to the Marketing Communication Manager and enhance QLS brand and mission by offering Media and public affairs expertise through consistent and effective PR and media activities.

Key responsibilities of the role are:

  • Work with the Marketing Communications Manager to recommend and implement media strategies and campaigns.
  • Manage the QLS media function, including development of pro-active media opportunities, responding to media enquiries, management of media enquiry register and writing media releases.
  • Develop and manage key Media and profession relationships.
  • Coordinate media monitoring, including sending daily media reports/summaries to the relevant internal stakeholders.
  • Research current developments in best practice for media, public affairs and the legal profession to inform QLS messaging.
  • Assist with drafting and proofing speech notes in consultation with the relevant stakeholders.

To be successful for the role you will have the following:

Qualifications

  • Tertiary qualifications in journalism or communication (desirable)

Knowledge, skills and experience

  • 5-7 years’ experience in a public affairs, media or journalism role.
  • Knowledge of the Queensland legal and/or political system/s (desirable).
  • Publication management experience will be highly regarded.
  • Understanding of the news cycle and latest media trends.
  • Ability to identify and create compelling news content and messaging, including writing, editing and proof-reading skills.
  • Excellent communication and project management skills with ability to lead strategic media activities.
