Form of workWe have an exciting opportunity for Medical Practitioners to join the RFDS Team on an initial short-term contract, to provide rotary medevac services based in Darwin for an oil and gas exploration contract using the S92 helicopter.
About the Role
- Short-term contract from May 2024 to December 2024, with potential extension until February 2025.
- It will involve initial emergency response, stabilisation, and transportation/medevac of critically ill or injured patients.
- Roster will be 7 days on and 7 days off at 12 hours per day-shift, and on-call during the night.
- You will be working with a mixture of experienced Flight Paramedics and Flight Nurses.
- There may be future opportunities to continue to work with RFDS WA and/or RFDS SA/NT once the contract ends.
About You
You will need to hold your AHPRA Registration as a Medical Practitioner, with a minimum of 5 years post-graduate experience, with broad experience in:
- Emergency medicine
- Anaesthetics
- Acute paediatrics
You will also have the ability to independently manage critically ill and injured patients, and work in a multidisciplinary team.

The mission of the Royal Flying Doctor Service (Western Operations) is to provide excellence in aeromedical and primary health care across Western Australia. Every member of the RFDS WO team contributes to that mission and living our values of showing respect, demonstrating fairness, utilising diversity and being safe. Every year, the RFDS WO provides urgent retrieval for about 10,000 patients in regional WA. The RFDS in WA operates five bases in Perth, Broome, Port Hedland, Kalgoorlie and Meekatharra. Our 24/7 operations centre at Jandakot Airport coordinates complex logistics for patient retrievals and clinics across the State. We work in partnership with government, business and the community, and are proud to work on Country with Aboriginal medical services and many local service providers.
In 2024, the RFDS is launching a new five-year strategy ‘Above and Beyond’, which will mark an important new chapter in the long Flying Doctor history. The strategy will include a focus on expanding remote health clinics in some of WA’s most vulnerable communities, expanding our profit-for-purpose services, strengthening our workforce, harnessing technology and addressing our environmental sustainability.
