Mental Health Advocate

Recruitment 24/7 has a vacancy for a ‘Mental Health Advocate’ for our client based in Ipswich.Our client is an advocacy service that delivers support to vulnerable community members with concerns in Mental Health and housing.This position is ongoing, working Monday to Friday. The pay rate is $45.00 per hour.About the role:As a Mental Health Advocate, you will provide Individual Advocacy- representing the rights and interests of individuals experiencing mental illness to address instances of discrimination, abuse, and/or neglect to improve their welfare.This position reports to the Service Manager, with no direct reports.Duties and Responsibilities:Support is delivered on either short term or issue specific basis. Our ideal candidate will have the ability to:

• Work one on one with the individual experiencing a mental illness (or with the clients support person).
• Develop a plan of action in partnership with the individual.
• Educate the individual experiencing a mental illness about their rights.
• Work through the individual advocacy support plan in partnership with the client.
• Maintaiin accurate and up to date records/progress notes of activities taken.
• Attend and participate in team and professional development activities.
• Complete regular reporting in line with funding requirements.
• Other duties relevant to the position as required.

Skills & Experience:

• Experience working with people experiencing mental illness.
• Ability to build and maintain effective professional networks.
• Ability to act calmly with distressed people.
• Ability to work autonomously and within a multi-disciplinary team.

Qualificatoins and Registrations:

• Diaploma or Degree in relevant field
• Current positive police clearance, or the ability to obtain one.
• Working with children card (Blue Card)
• Disability yellow card
• Proof of covid vaccination status
