To provide recovery-orientated, evidence-based therapeutic intervention services as part of headspace Tamworth and its outposts (hereafter referred to as headspace Tamworth) to young people with mild to moderate Mental Health presentations across the four core streams of Mental Health, physical and sexual health, alcohol and other drug services, and work and study support.   To work under supervision within professional practice standards and under both headspace Tamworth and Centacare New England North West as Lead Agency guidelines. To creatively engage with the youth of the community in a flexible, accessible, youth focused, youth friendly and supportive way. To work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team to provide recovery-orientated, evidence-based therapeutic intervention services. This position is responsible for ensuring alignment and delivery of the headspace model under the headspace National Trade Mark Licence Deed and adherence to the headspace Model Integrity Framework (hMIF). Remuneration

This position operates under the Health Professionals & Support Services Award 2020 on a level 3 ($40.80/hr - $46.40)

About The Role 

Working as part of our team some key responsibilities include but is not limited to:

  • Identify young people aged 12-25 years of age who require assistance with Mental Health, physical and sexual health, alcohol and other drug services, and work and study support, and other care or service needs using a bio-psychosocial assessment (HEADSS) and a strengths-based, recovery framework.  Where necessary, these intake assessments will be conducted with young people as well as families and friends, as deemed necessary.
  • Select and administer screening tools or assessments, such as the K10, PHQ9, GAD7, SOFAS, My Life Tracker, and SCOFF. Where appropriate, also to utilise structured observations and clinical interviews.  Based on administering the aforementioned, to then interpret and integrate this data.
  • Developing clinical formulation based on the assessments and developing appropriate care plans with the young person to support individual needs of the young person whilst  selectively drawing on appropriate conceptual and theoretical models.
  • Performing risk assessments and developing risk management plans/safety plans as required.
  • Match a young person’s age and stage of psychological and biological development taking into account their psycho-social circumstances, risk and protective factors, personal goals and preferences.
  • Where deemed clinically appropriate, implement the use of culturally appropriate assessment tools.
  • Provide minimum alcohol and other drugs (AOD) functions, including routine screening and assessment for AOD, provision of AOD information, including harm reduction strategies, and providing treatments for AOD issues.

Essential Criteria

  • Tertiary level degree in social work, psychology, nursing or other Allied Health profession or have completed relevant study in these fields, and if required a willingness to be employed provisionally to seek registration.
  • Experience in the delivery or willingness to deliver both individual and group evidence-based interventions and programs, including social connection activities with young people.
  • Demonstrated experience in management of clinical risk or willingness to learn.
  • Experience in maintaining records to meet organisational and legislative requirements.
  • Knowledge of Mental Health as it relates to young people and evidence-based intervention options for young people experiencing mental illness and other health related issues and interventions for the same.
  • Experience or openness to working in rural and autonomous settings under Supervision.
