ABOUT AAC

Ashburton Aboriginal Corporation (AAC) is a not-for-profit Aboriginal organisation with Head Office in Tom Price, WA. Our mission is to establish and maintain an environment that benefits people through the creation of culturally appropriate employment and enterprise opportunities, and the provision of education and training services throughout the Pilbara. Our footprint extends across much of the vast Pilbara region, and we have been successfully supporting the development of opportunities for Aboriginal people in the region for many years. 

POSITION SUMMARY

As a CDP Mentor, you need to ensure that that there are sufficient projects and tasks scheduled within the designated activity to engage job seekers and provide relevant skills; design activity projects that can cope with a rolling intake of participants; and work with the Workforce Development Manager to establish links with community organisations for both on-site activity participation.

PROFILE CRITERIA

Essential: 

A Trade Qualification or specific skill able to be incorporated into Work for The Dole activities.  

  • Demonstrated capacity for supervising, instructing, and motivating a group.  
  • Effective and respectful workplace communication skills and the ability to liaise with others as required.  
  • A superior work ethic and the ability to lead others by example.  
  • Demonstrated experience in managing multiple projects at any one time. 
  • Proven experience working with people across culturally diverse social-economic backgrounds. 
  • Ability to provide direction, mentoring, and support to the Leading Hands. 
  • Demonstrated understanding of Risk to ensure the risk assessment process is managed. 
  • Capacity to operate independently of direct supervision. 
  • Demonstrated Time Management Skills. 
  • Sound knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety requirements. 
  • Exceptional Interpersonal skills including communication skills, both verbal and written. 
  • Competent in Microsoft Office with the ability to grasp other IT programs/databases. 

Desired: 

  • Demonstrated experience or capacity to work and engage with Aboriginal people. 
  • An understanding of the cultural, political, economic, and social issues affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in contemporary Australian society. 
  • Experience in working for Not-for-Profit organisational frameworks.
