Qualifications & experience

  • Proven experience as a Metal Machinist, with a track record of producing high-quality work to tight tolerances.
  • Strong understanding of machining techniques and processes.
  • Proficiency in interpreting technical drawings and specifications.
  • Successful skill assessment completion (for foreign qualifications)
  • Excellent knowledge of precision measuring instruments.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Effective problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Flexibility to work overtime and weekends as needed.

Tasks & responsibilities

  • Interpret detailed drawings and specifications to determine suitable materials, methods, and sequences of operations for metal fabrication.
  • Set up and operate a variety of machine tools, including lathes, milling machines, grinders, and presses, to shape and form metal components.
  • Fit fabricated metal parts into products and assemble metal parts and subassemblies to produce machines and equipment.
  • Check fabricated and assembled metal parts for accuracy, clearance, and fit using precision measuring instruments.
  • Set guides, stops, and other controls on machining tools, and set up cutting and shaping tools and dies for optimal performance.
  • Form metal stock and castings to fine tolerances using machining tools such as presses, cutters, grinders, and drills.
  • Cut, thread, bend, and install hydraulic and pneumatic pipes and lines as required for machinery operation.
  • Prepare pattern mechanisms to control the operation of textile machines used in fabric production processes.
  • Diagnose faults and perform operational maintenance of machines, and overhaul and repair mechanical parts and fluid power equipment as needed.
  • Erect machines and equipment on-site as required.
