Salary: Level A - $101,460- $108,906 p.a. OR Level B - $114,645 - $136,136 pa (pro rata for part-time) plus 17% super

About the Role
This is a compelling opportunity for a skilled mathematical modeller and analyst to join the Department of Infectious Diseases at the prestigious Peter Doherty Institute for Infection and Immunity. As a key member of an established multi-disciplinary group, you will play a crucial role in a modelling program funded by the Australian Department of Health and Aged Care, addressing pressing questions related to vaccine allocation for respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) and influenza within the Australian National Immunisation Program schedule.
Your responsibilities will include:
  • Assist with model-based studies of respiratory syncytial virus and influenza epidemiology in Australia, and vaccine strategies for prevention and control of related disease by developing or adapting code from an existing agent-based model of population level infection transmission;
  • Contribute to verbal and written reports as required by funders, including drafting of peer reviewed publications outlining project findings;
  • Provide day to day mentoring for graduate research students, with opportunities for formal joint supervision.
Who We Are Looking For
You excel in collaborative teamwork, meeting deadlines with ease. Your strong communication skills shine, complemented by a history of peer-reviewed scientific article publications.
You will also have:
  • A PhD in applied mathematics, mathematical biology, statistics, biostatistics, computer science, or equivalent professional qualification
  • Demonstrated experience in successfully producing computational code for mathematical models of biological systems using Python, R or C++
  • Experience using the statistical programming language R, or familiarity with similar languages and an ability to learn R quickly
