Job description

New Aim is Australia's largest and fastest-growing private ecommerce company. Since 2005, we've evolved from marketplace seller to ecommerce enabler, ranking among the 'Top 200 Private Companies' in Australia.

We’re reimagining the possibilities of ecommerce, introducing new technologies to democratise business ownership, and inspiring entirely new categories of business. It’s all possible because of our proprietary technology that improves procurement, supply chain management, multichannel integration, and price decisioning.

We partner with Australia’s most-loved household brands and online marketplaces including Bunnings, Myer, Woolworths, Catch, and MyDeal. Our channel coverage represents more than 60% of Australia’s total retail sales. Through our B2B retail marketplace, Dropshipzone, we’re creating an ecosystem that enables thousands of SMEs to start and scale with ecommerce.

If you're as excited about this as we are: join us! It’s a hell of a ride.

Position 2. Data Engineer Intern

The purpose of the Intern Data Engineer position is to offer a unique and enriching opportunity for interns to immerse themselves in the world of data engineering within a dynamic e-commerce environment. This program is designed to enable interns to observe and learn firsthand about the intricacies of data pipeline management, the architecture of data platforms, and the nuances of data modeling. Interns will have the chance to engage with our team of experts, gaining insights into daily operations and best practices in data engineering. Additionally, the internship offers a special project opportunity, where interns can explore and learn how to build a new data platform on Google Cloud from the ground up. This hands-on experience is purely educational and aimed at providing interns with valuable learning experiences.

Key Steps & Milestones:

  1. Orientation and Training: Begin with a comprehensive orientation to understand the company's vision, values, and the role of technology within our operations. Initial training sessions will cover data engineering fundamentals, our technology stack, and an introduction to Google Cloud Platform.
  2. Observation Phase: Interns will shadow members of our data engineering team, observing daily tasks and processes such as data collection, pipeline construction, and maintenance. This phase is crucial for gaining real-world insight into the data engineer's role and responsibilities.
  3. Learning Project Assignment: Assign a project where interns will conceptualize and design a data platform on Google Cloud. This project allows interns to apply their learning in a practical scenario, starting from the planning phase to the design blueprint.
  4. Development Skills Workshop: Conduct workshops focusing on specific skills needed for data platform development, including Google Cloud services, database management, and data modeling techniques. These sessions aim to equip interns with the necessary tools and knowledge for their project.
  5. Project Development Phase: Interns will begin the practical application of their project, applying their learned skills to build a data platform. This phase includes drafting the architecture, selecting the appropriate Google Cloud services, and setting up a basic data pipeline.
  6. Review and Feedback Sessions: Regular review meetings will be held to discuss the project's progress, challenges encountered, and feedback from supervising engineers. These sessions are vital for iterative learning and adjustment of project goals as needed.
  7. Final Presentation: Culminate the internship with a final presentation where interns showcase their data platform project, detailing the design, challenges faced, and how they overcame them.
