Job description

Position Summary:

The Personal Care Attendant (PCA) plays a crucial role in providing compassionate and culturally sensitive care to residents of Kalano Flexible Age care – a low level age care facility. The Multipurpose Senior PCA will not only assist residents with their daily living activities, provide emotional support, and ensure their safety and well-being but will be able to work flexibly within the facility when required. This position will need the skills and certifications to backfill the range of positions in the Age Care facility including backfilling the Flexible Age Care cooks role for periods of time or provide a mentoring supervisory role for the First Nation age care trainees or support the Commonwealth Home Support Program as and when directed by the Flexible Age Care Manager. This position requires a commitment to enhancing the independence and quality of life for elderly individuals.

Key Responsibilities:

Personal Care:

  • Assist residents with activities of daily living (ADLs) such as bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and mobility assistance, while preserving their dignity and respecting cultural preferences.
  • Assist residents with exercises, walking, and physical activities as per their individual capabilities and preferences. Implement mobility aids safely. .
  • Provide medication support by assisting clients to take their medications from Webster packs according to the prescribed schedules documented on their individual medication charts. Ensure that proper protocols are followed for medication management.
  • Assist residents during mealtimes. Encourage social interactions during meals.

Documentation:

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of care provided, incidents, changes in condition, and other relevant information as required by the facility’s policies and regulations.

Resident Support:

  • Interact with residents in a respectful, friendly, and culturally sensitive manner. Report client feedback, both positive and negative. Report all complaints to the Age Care Manager.
  • Prepare breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks for residents and lunch and snacks for the Commonwealth Home support program clients according to the established menu while considering dietary needs, cultural preferences, and nutritional requirements – when undertaking the Cooks role as per their position description.
  • Monitor and evaluate service and standard of meals ensuring improvements based on resident feedback is considered.

Collaboration:

  • Work closely with other staff members including nurses, allied health, and medical professionals, to ensure holistic care and proper communication.
  • Participate in staff and resident meetings and activities as directed.
  • Willingness to back fill or assist the CHSP team with client support

Continuous Learning:

  • Stay updated on best practices in aged care, cultural competence, and relevant regulations. Attend training sessions to enhance skills and knowledge.

Working conditions:

  • This position may involve shift work, including weekends and holidays. Physical demands include assisting residents with mobility, lifting, and providing Personal Care. The work environment may vary between the Flexible Age Care facility and the community.

The Successful applicant should possess the following:

Qualifications/Certifications/Licences:

• Certificate 3 or 4 in Aged Care, Individual Support or equivalent

• Food Supervisor Certificate

• SIT30816 Certificate 3 in Commercial Cookery

• Current First Aid Certificate

• Valid NT Drivers Licence

• Valid Ochre Card

• National Police Check (no more than 2 months old)

Vaccinations:

• Covid 19 Vaccinated

• Influenza vaccinated (annually)

Other:

• Physical capability to perform cleaning tasks, including bending, lifting, and standing for extended periods.

• Sensitivity to the needs and preferences of the elderly and a compassionate attitude.

• Excellent time management and organisational skills

• Competent literacy, computer skills & IT skills

• Ability to take initiative and make sound decisions.

• Adherence to Kalano’s Policies and Procedures

• Adherence and understanding of WHS requirements and legislation.

Renumeration & Benefits

Employment Type: Full Time

Kalano EBA Classification: SCS4

Salary Range: $67,749.63 per annum (pro-rata)

• 6 Weeks Annual Leave

• 2 Weeks Sick Leave

• 2 Weeks Ancillary Leave

• 1 RDO per Month.

• Access to pre-tax salary packaging with CBB

• 11% employer superannuation guarantee paid additional to base salary

All leave entitlements and wages are paid pro-rata.

Location: Kalano Flexible Age Care Centre - Lot 508 Mckeddie Road, Katherine, NT

Hours of work: 37.5 hours per week – 7.5 hours per day
