PAW Media – Music Program Coordinator

  • Salary range of $75,000 – $85,000 +11.5% super - Salary negotiable dependent on experience.
  • 38hrs per week - Additional approved hours as Time Off in Lieu.
  • 6 Weeks Annual Leave with an additional 17.5% Leave Loading.
  • Relocation Assistance of up to $1,000 at contract beginning & end.
  • Furnished accommodation and utilities provided by PAW at no cost.
  • 12-month Contract, with potential for renewal under similar arrangements.
  • Remote Central Australian location based in Yuendumu, NT.

We are looking for an enthusiastic Music Coordinator to join our team. This is a rewarding and life changing role! 

The Coordinator will facilitate studio recordings, community music releases, music video production, community concerts/events and to liaise with external stakeholders to create a strong network of contacts and resources.

This role focuses on training in technical production and community engagement with emphasis on increasing engagement amongst women, young people and employment and supervision of the studio and equipment.

The position will allow you to join a very special community and to contribute to its growth, developing an understanding of Warlpiri and other local cultures. The successful candidate will need to understand the political, social, and economic factors affecting Indigenous Australians in remote areas. 

Answerable to the General Manager and Operations Manager, the successful candidate will manage and coordinate the music program in Yuendumu and other nearby PAW communities.  

ROLE REQUIREMENTS

  • Considerable travel through Aboriginal Lands rarely visited by outsiders.
  • Occasional weekend/evening work (additional hours negotiated with TOIL)
  • Be able to obtain an OCHRE Card - Working with Children’s Check
  • Living in shared accommodation with 1 or 2 other PAW Staff.

THE POSITION IS OPEN TO

  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders are strongly encouraged to apply.
  • Australian Citizens, Residents or individuals holding a Working Visa valid until at least 2024.

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA

  • Technical expertise in sound engineering for studio and live performance.
  • Expertise in small concert staging and equipment.
  • Demonstrated high-level skills in recording and mixing software.
  • Experience delivering training and community engagement.
  • Demonstrated capacity for resourcefulness, self-motivation, autonomy, effective problem solving and conflict resolution.
  • Manual Driver’s License.
  • Be an Australian citizen, resident or hold a valid working visa until at least 2025.

DESIRABLE CRITERIA

  • Professional Sound Engineer Experience.
  • Experience working cross culturally, preferable with Indigenous Australians.
  • Experience in writing and acquitting grants.
  • Qualifications in Training and Assessment.
  • 4WD Experience.
  • Experience working with young people.

The Music Program Coordinator will be required to: 

  • Coordinate events and manage concerts in Yuendumu and other PAW communities.
  • Coordinate logistics of bands for events.
  • Oversee the production of community music releases.
  • Coordinate and finalise music productions for radio and film content.
  • Provide training to the Community Sound Engineer and oversee training conducted within the program.
  • Coordinate music and technical production workshops.
  • Ensure the music program is inclusive reaching both female and male participants.
  • Liaise with professionals and organisations in the Australian music industry to provide support, opportunities, and outcomes for local musicians.
  • Access distribution networks for musical content and production.
  • Oversee studio management, equipment purchases and maintenance registers.
  • Grants applications and acquittals.
  • Update studio technology and equipment as required.
  • Develop, maintain, and oversee contact lists within the industry.
  • Work with the Community Archives officer to ensure all productions are archived.
  • Assist Management, Radio and Video Production departments as required.

ABOUT PAW MEDIA

PAW Media and Communications is a Warlpiri owned and run Not-for-profit. For over 35 years PAW has been creating TV, films, radio, and music, in language, according to local cultural protocols. In addition to creating local media productions and documenting local culture, PAW provides media training, digital literacy programs and employment opportunities for the people of Yuendumu and surrounding communities. 

ABOUT THE LOCATION
Yuendumu has a population of approximately 1000 people, predominantly Warlpiri. The community is the main service delivery centre for Warlpiri Aboriginal Lands, and it provides necessities for residents. Among Yuendumu’s services is a health clinic, two general stores, post office, school, and police station. It is the only community in its region with a public swimming pool.
