We are currently seeking an experienced and motivated Hub Leader to lead our Climate Systems Hub, and it could be the next exciting opportunity you’re looking for!
Established as part of Australia’s National Environment Science Program, the Climate Systems Hub is a CSIRO-led collaboration, partnering with number of Australia’s leading climate change research institutions. It strives to provide impactful research to advance the understanding of Australia’s climate, its extremes and associated drivers, as well as directly inform climate mitigation and adaptation solutions for Australia.
In this multi-faceted role, you will be primarily responsible for engaging with all the partners across different agencies/departments and bringing them together to deliver a coordinated approach to climate science impact for Australia. Using your well-established science expertise and reputation, you will help continue the success of the program, by guiding the development & progress of research projects, ensuring the Hub’s governance, leading active collaborations and strategic stakeholder relationships, and engaging with community to promote & support the Hub.

Your duties will include:
Driving an impact agenda aligned to CSIROs impact model though project design and staff culture.
Leading active collaborations and maintaining positive relationships with the Department, the other hubs involved in NESP2, the Hub’s governance committees and the Hub partners.
Engaging with other key climate initiatives in Australia to ensure a coordinated approach to climate science, services and engagement including contributing to processes to design future climate focused initiatives for national benefit.
Taking primary responsibility and accountability for the successful delivery of the Hub’s approved research portfolio in line with the priorities of the Department, the Hub partners and key stakeholders.
Leading a cross-agency program management team that is effective and efficient, and adheres to CSIRO Project management standards, policies and processes, including ensuring the Hub’s governance and day-to-day administration complies with partner guidelines and the requirements of CSIRO and the Funding Agreement.
Location: Hobart TAS; Melbourne VIC; Canberra ACT
Salary: Starting from AU$174k pa + up to 15.4% superannuation (negotiable based on skills and experience)

To be considered you will need:
A PhD (or equivalent) in a relevant field, ideally with managerial experience or qualifications, and combined with significant experience and depth of understanding of science from either a research or industry background.
Demonstrated experience in working across agencies and leading cross-agency program teams.
A proven ability to establish and develop strong stakeholder relationships, engage effectively, and align with multiple organisations and maintain strong professional and collaborative working relationships with key internal and external stakeholders, including working with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people and community.
Strong project management, organisational, administrative, and analytical skills with the capacity to deal with ambiguity.
Demonstrated ability to comprehend science and technology concepts and models to support the translation of science and technology into value creation.
Established reputation and credibility in the relevant science domain with evidence of effective science leadership, publication history of authorship on scientific papers in peer reviewed journals and/or reports, or equivalent sector industry experience.
