About the Role
Barung Natural Area Services (BNAS) is our quality contracting division which has extensive experience working with local councils, companies and individuals across the Moreton Bay, Sunshine Coast and Gympie regions to achieve positive environmental and community outcomes.
BNAS delivers environmental solutions with integrity and an unwavering dedication to safety. Our Environment, Safety and Quality Management Systems are ISO certified, demonstrating our commitment and ability to provide consistently safe, high-quality services and products to our clients.
This role is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of BNAS with revenue of $2.5m and 30+ staff. The position reports to the General Manager of Barung. Achieving efficient and effective service delivery, while fostering a culture of safety, quality, training/learning and customer satisfaction is a key internal accountability. The external objective is to provide high quality bush rehabilitation, revegetation and advice to clients, while conducting profitable, cost effective works which align with Barung Landcare's environmental mission and values.
Key Accountabilities:
- Develop and manage project schedules, budgets, and resource allocations to ensure that project objectives are met.
- Preparation and submission of tender applications.
- Manage projects and contracts to achieve desired client outcomes and KPI's.
- Build and maintain strong and lasting relationships with clients and stakeholders.
- Ability to identify new business opportunities.
- Lead team members in order to ensure timely and effective delivery of projects as per contractual agreements.
- Ability and willingness to supervise work in the field to assist in delivery of on-ground works in order to meet project delivery milestones.
- Collaborate with Barung Landcare's management team to align operational goals of Natural Area Services with the overall objectives, mission and values of the organisation.
- Represent Barung Landcare at industry meetings, site inductions and events.
- Identify and assess risks and implement risk management strategies to mitigate them.
- Be responsible for the day-to-day leadership, management and support of the Bush Regen teams including recruitment, monitoring delivery against objectives, quality standards, coaching and appraisal.
- Ensure staff and clients are aware of workplace health and safety responsibilities, and that these are effectively undertaken (including workplace assessments etc).
- Have strong organisational and time management skills, with the capacity to work to deadlines and be calm under pressure.
- Be highly competent in the use of planning and project management software.
- Demonstrate successful management of contracts and projects.
- 5+ years experience with natural conservation and environmental management.
- Have strong knowledge of and identification skills of weed species and native plants of South East Queensland.
- Have strong interpersonal skills, written and oral, with a willingness to engage and enthuse others .
- Have experience developing constructive relationships with local government, private clients and other organisations in the environmental sector.
- Have strong leadership skills.
- Be a competent financial business manager.
- Tertiary qualification in Environmental Science, Conservation, Land Management or equivalent .
- Qualifications and/or senior experience in Business Management or related discipline.
- Drivers Licence.
- Relevant technical certificates and training
- Chainsaw cross-cut and felling.
- First Aid & CPR certificate.
- ACDC weed spraying.
