Netball WA (NWA) is the peak state sporting organisation responsible for the governance, development, promotion and administration of netball throughout Western Australia, and its organisation includes Glass Jar Australia.

Primary Purpose of Position

Reporting to the Stakeholder and Operations Manager – Community Netball, the Official Coordinator’s role is to lead the coordination and delivery of education, accreditation, pathway programs and development of umpires/officials in collaboration with Netball WA Pathway and the Association Umpire Development Officers (AUDO’s).

This position will work closely with the team dedicated to the growth and development of Officials and provide input into the goals and objectives of NWA. Networking with other volunteers and industry professionals is an important component of this role.

Responsibilities and Duties

• Promote the purpose, values, and behaviours of NWA within the netball community, and greater Western Australian communities, advocating the sport as a deliverer in service excellence

• Build strong relationships with the AUDO’s and Associations providing professional development opportunities and upskilling, supporting them to build capacity within their Associations

• Support the ongoing education and adoption of quality control measures to ensure the continued development of a sustainable workforce

• Collaborate with AUDO’s in identifying the development needs of umpires in the Association and support them in preparing Association umpire development plans

• In collaboration with the Community Netball Department implement and review the region’s development plan as it pertains to umpire development

• As required attend Regional Working Group (RWG) and other meetings

• Advocate for, coordinate, and implement umpire programs, badging, accreditation, education workshops and upskilling as required

• Support Associations in the development and implementation of the introductory umpire programs such as the Green Shirt Program

• Collaborate with AUDOs in the identification of umpires and support umpires and officials through the relevant pathway

• In collaboration with the NWA Performance and Pathway Team support the pathway programs within the region as required

• Develop and maintain depth charts of the region’s identified umpires

• Assist with the coordination of, and attend the Regional Championships and carnivals as required

• Collaborate with membership coordinator and development coordinator regarding Association visits

• Administrate programs, badging and depth charts, completing reports and KPI records as required

• Attend professional development as required

• Contribute to the development of region’s operational plans, budgets and calendar of events to achieve key strategic and operational outcomes

• Adhere to and comply with NWA policies and procedures

• Any other duties within the employee's capabilities and which is reasonable to expect the employee to undertake as directed by the Stakeholder & Operations Manager from time to time. Adhere to and comply with NWA policies and procedures

Qualifications and Experience

Essential

• Minimum of 1 to 2 years’ experience in a similar role

• Minimum umpiring B Badge (or working towards)

• Demonstrated experience in identification, coaching and mentoring of umpires

• High level presentation skills, with experience in presenting education programs and workshops

• Ability to prepare quality and accurate written communication, correspondence and reports

• Ability to plan, prioritise work and maximise the use of internal and external resources to achieve deadlines and outcomes

• Strong communication skills and ability to work with a range of people/stakeholders

• Good working knowledge of Windows operating environments

• Ability to work independently and part of a broader team

• Preparedness to be flexible in respect to work hours and intrastate/interstate travel

• A current ‘C’ class WA driver’s licence

• At all times ensure a Child Safe environment

• Must be able to demonstrate an understanding of appropriate behaviours when engaging with children

• Comply with the Netball Australia Member Protection Policy and Child Safeguarding Policy

• Comply with the WA Working with Children Check (WWCC) Legislation which means:

o If your usual duties involve, or are likely to involve, contact with a child under 18 you will be required to obtain a WWCC;

o If you fall into a WWCC exemption category a National Police Clearance Certificate is required

Desired

• Experience in the sport/not-for-profit industry would be highly regarded

• Delivery of sporting programs, netball or otherwise

• Understanding of Play HQ and MyLearning database

• Experience working within a member-based association, particularly of a sporting nature

Hours of Work

  • This role is a permanent part-time role, working a flexible 12.5 hours per week (allowing hours to be worked when required). The sport industry operates outside of traditional business hours, including weekends. To succeed in this role, you must be willing to work when and where sport is taking place. We have a flexible approach to ensuring our people can balance their family life and personal commitments alongside industry demands.

Child Safeguarding

  • NWA as a child safe organisation require all applicants that will work with children to undergo an extensive screening process prior to appointment.

Salary

  • A salary of $17,680 per annum plus superannuation is offered.
