Job Description
The Network Architect works with a team of network engineers and communications technology professionals to build, operate and support the Corporate IT, Data Centres, Cloud Platforms and Broadcast Operations networks.
The Networks team is part of the Infrastructure and Corporate Technology group which also supports the on-premises compute and storage platforms as well as some cloud platforms and ERP systems. The Nine network includes sites across Australia including staff work areas, television production, transmission sites, print production sites and Radio studios. The network team operates the local area network, wide area networks, internet connections, wireless LANs, fixed telephony, cloud connectivity and the core professional media networks across all of these sites.
This is a large-scale national network with multiple end-user sites, multiple data centres, multiple cloud connections and multi-layered cyber security programs. It is a complex network including a mix of firewalls, virtual routers, security zones, multicast routing, trunking and cloud interconnections. The network services the needs of TV broadcast, radio broadcast, print production, streaming content, corporate users, and corporate applications. Due to the network size and complexity, automation of network management is a key priority.
Role responsibilities
Network Architecture Planning and Documentation: Work with Senior Network Engineers to design and manage projects to improve the efficient operation and security of the network. Document these designs in a variety of formats to cover all aspects of deployment and configuration of network devices including:
Project objectives, stakeholder requirements, risks and constraints.
physical layers, cabling, fibre connectivity and SFP types
Logical layers including router configuration.
Security zones, isolation, firewalls and inspection points
Server, storage and device interconnections including redundancy.
Ancillary network services including DHCP, DNS, NTP, PTP, VIPs, NATs, Tunnels.
Such documentation to be created in a variety of styles to be used by technicians, stakeholders and management plan and implement technology services
Project Management: Take a lead-role in engaging stakeholders across the business to design network services to meet their needs, while maintaining standards of cyber security, efficiency and manageability.
Technical responsibilities
Design and document complex core network systems and interfaces
Create detailed network drawings and plans with various views of complex network systems including physical cabling schedules, logical connectivity, security zones and process flows.
Qualifications
Ability to lead technical teams in the design and implementation of complex network systems.
Expert level understanding of key network technologies including:
Routing Protocols - incl BGP, OSPF
Layer2 Protocols - incl BFD, LLDP, STP, vPC
WiFi, Cisco WLC
Multicast, VxLAN, EVPN, Spine-leaf
PTP & NTP
Firewalling & NAT
Voice networks and SIP
VPN and GRE
Cloud Networking & Interconnects
A detailed knowledge and experience with Cisco networking products including Nexus, IOS and CatOS.
Understanding of Key Cyber security principles including Zero Trust models, DDoS mitigation, firewall policy management, firmware management and tooling.
Experience with Cloud networking in AWS, GCP and Azure including Direct interconnections and peering.
Nice to have:
Formal qualifications, bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a technical field related to computer science, software development, automation or computer networking.
Experience with professional media networks including hardware codecs, SMPTE 2110 multicast, packet duplication and precision timing.
Experience in managing Software Development and automation, particularly using agile methodology.
