What you need:

  • Tertiary qualification in Speech Pathology and a current practising membership of Speech Pathology Australia or working towards a tertiary qualification and view to gain membership of Speech Pathology Australia.
  • Sound knowledge of contemporary approaches to assessment and intervention for mealtime management and communication issues for individuals with developmental and/or acquired disabilities.
  • Demonstrated well developed communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills to develop good working relationships with a wide range of stakeholders including clients, families, and carers.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage own workload, including the ability to problem solve, prioritise, handle multiple projects, and meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of an interdisciplinary team.
  • Awareness and understanding of the National Disability Service Standards, and an in depth understanding of the needs and requirements of people with varied disabilities and diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to travel to residential homes within the metropolitan area.

Other requirements;

  • A full Australian driver’s licence
  • NDIS Workers Screen Clearance
  • Provide First Aid certificate (including CPR) with at least 6 months validity.
  • Must hold Australian citizenship or be a permanent resident of Australia.

 Desirable:

  • Experience in/knowledge of delivering training programs to a range of audiences including non-clinical staff.
  • Experience in/knowledge of the prescription and implementation of low tech and high tech alternative and augmentative communication systems.
  • Experience working with people with complex communication needs.
