Type of Employment:  Full-time (although Part-time may also be considered)

Term of appointment: 1 Year Fixed Term

POSITION OVERVIEW

The On-Campus Lecturer (OCL) is an on-campus, multi-disciplinary engineering lecturer who is physically present in all classes of the course they are assigned to and during all scheduled course contact hours to facilitate all on-campus content for that course. 

The OCL will engage, in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching to on-campus students, postgraduate supervision, and further development of the School’s Engineering programs, as well as teaching online programs, performing research, administrative and other activities.

SUMMARY DESCRIPTION 

  • Provide leadership in the undertaking of one or multiple units of study;
  • Manage and coordinate one or multiple units of study;
  • Assist with selection of sessional academic staff associated with on-campus courses. 
  • Support and supervise on-campus academic activities 
  • Guide and oversee unit material development and delivery 
  • Support on-campus students and look after their progress 
  • Perform and execute research and scholarly activities 
  • Serve on academic, administrative and industry committees as needed 
  • Participate in online lecturing and course material checking 

KEY SELECTION CRITERIA 

  • Ability and/or demonstrable potential to undertake high calibre, publishable academic research in engineering, or related disciplines; 
  • Proven record of outstanding leadership in teaching and scholarship of teaching.
  • Demonstrable ability to drive innovative approaches in teaching and research and accomplish high levels of teaching performance; 
  • Ability and/or demonstrable potential to progress and complete research grants and projects; 
  • Exhibit academic leadership and good communication and interpersonal skills with an ability to foster a scholarly and cooperative teaching and learning environment within the course. 
  • Demonstrate appropriate high-level computer skills including the use of learning management systems (e.g. Moodle), spreadsheets and word-processing;
  • Knowledge and ability to apply Equal Opportunity principles;
  • Demonstrated expert knowledge of the engineering profession and the specific area(s) of engineering being managed; 
  • Evidence of having independent and innovative contributions to teaching and the scholarship of teaching at the discipline level.
  • Significant and sustained evidence of leadership in the development, delivery and evaluation of innovative teaching and learning strategies both in the on campus and online mode of delivery;
  • Experience in a leadership role in outstanding curriculum development and teaching methodology for topics/ courses in discipline area; 

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE                                                                        

  • PhD in Electrical Engineering or related field with +3 years' experience in teaching/supervising at a Master degree level at an educational institute / University, and relevant professional experience; OR Masters in Electrical Engineering with at least 5 years industry experience
  • Teaching qualification in Tertiary Education is desired;
  • Practical industry experience in Electrical engineering or related field;
  • Experience in the conceptualization, development, and completion of relevant, high-calibre academic research projects.
