Job description

We are seeking a dynamic perioperative registered nurse to join the perioperative clinical leadership team in the role of Operating Theatre Floor Coordinator. The Operating Floor Coordinator role is to provide assistance and support to the Hospital Executive Team in directing, coordinating and supervising the day-to-day management of the nursing and clinical services within the perioperative suite at Shellharbour Private Hospital.

As the leader of this team, the Operating Theatre Floor Coordinator will provide exceptional nursing management and be responsible for the clinical, resource management, education, research and material accountabilities of nursing in the perioperative theatre department. You will be directly involved in the development and promotion of a culture that embraces best perioperative clinical practice and demonstrates a commitment to quality, safety and patient focused care.

The Operating Theatre Floor Coordinator position responsibilities include daily perioperative workforce planning, daily and operational management, in particular matching and allocating nursing staff and fiscal resources to meet the needs of our perioperative patients whilst focusing on maximising operational efficiency and stakeholder expectations. Central to the role is the coordination of planned operating sessions in consultation with hospital stakeholders and Visiting Medical Officers (VMOs).

The ideal candidate will possess an expert level of knowledge and experience to be a source of expert clinical knowledge to lead the perioperative nursing and clinical teams. Essential, is the ability to display highly developed leadership skills and the fortitude needed to manage and lead a team of dedicated perioperative professionals in a busy and expanding service by promoting and role-modelling patient centred care and perioperative best practice. They will have experience and innovative ideas in how to support the perioperative team through clinical leadership, role modelling and mentorship strategies whilst promoting personal and professional accountability of all perioperative team members.

Other duties and responsibilities include:-

  • Caring for and leading a team of professionals.
  • Communication and coordination of patient care.
  • Engagement with stakeholders in other departments to ensure the highest quality patient care, that services are efficient, that patient safety is optimised and to resolve barriers to patient flow.
  • Team management, including performance management and compliance with Human Resources processes.
  • Delivery of work against relevant timeframes.

Your Skills and Experience:

  • Perioperative experience – Scrub/Scout and/or Anaesthetics/PACU
  • Rostering and allocation skills
  • Prior experience as Theatre Manager, Floor Manager or shift co-ordinator
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, leadership and communication
  • Can demonstrate the ability to manage challenging situations
  • Proven ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a range of stakeholders
  • Ability to plan, develop, implement and evaluate a continuous improvement / risk management program
  • Excellent communication skills and on the spot problem solving abilities

Essential Criteria:

  • Current AHPRA Registration as a Registered Nurse (Division 1), General
  • Minimum 5 years perioperative clinical experience
  • Relevant postgraduate qualifications in perioperative nursing
  • Demonstrated knowledge of perioperative nursing best practice including ACORN Standards, ANZCA guidelines, ASNZ4187 and NSW Health Policy Directives
  • Demonstrated commitment to professional development
  • Sound understanding of clinical governance as relevant to perioperative services and hospital management
  • strong leadership and mentoring skills
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing quality improvement initiatives, clinical policies and accreditation programs relating to ACHS clinical standards
  • Demonstrated competence in cost centre management
  • Strong collaborative interpersonal skills with well-developed verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated computer skills in relevant hospital management and MS Office programs
  • Proof of COVID19 Vaccination status, in line with Public Health Order for all health care workers to be fully vaccinated by 30 November 2021 as well as immunisation evidence and serology report
  • Working with Children Check and Police Check

Desirable Criteria:

  • Previous nursing/healthcare leadership experience
  • Previous experience relieving Nursing Unit Manager roles
