Outreach and Access Officer (Curriculum and Quality)  

Based on the Fremantle Campus  

Full-time, Fixed-term role ending December 2025

ABOUT THE UNIVERSITY  

The University of Notre Dame Australia is a private Catholic University with over 1,000 permanent staff providing an exceptional educational experience to over 12,000 students across our Fremantle, Broome, and Sydney campuses, as well as clinical schools in Victoria and New South Wales. 

ABOUT THE ROLE  

Student Equity is responsible for supporting and developing initiatives to encourage a more diverse and inclusive student population to study and succeed at the University. Student Equity sits within the Curriculum & Quality Office. 

The position is responsible for widening participation initiatives with a particular emphasis on Outreach and engagement of students from cohorts traditionally underrepresented in higher education, specifically those from regional and remote areas, from low socioeconomic backgrounds, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. The position reports to the Manager, Student Equity.  

This role is funded by the Higher Education Participation & Partnerships Program (HEPPP) and will cease at the end of December 2025.  

Key Responsibilities  

  • Work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to deliver the University’s equity Outreach and Access activities that build awareness, aspiration, and capability to enter higher education.
  • Maintain communication channels and build positive relationships with partner organisations, secondary school representatives, VET providers, and community, and provide helpful information that engages students, their families, and their supporters. The role will also focus on building strong relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
  • Evaluate and report on initiatives, including collecting and collating activity data, to assess effectiveness of programs and meet reporting obligations.
    Provide supervision and guidance for Student Ambassadors working across outreach initiatives.
  • Coordinate and implement engagement activities and outreach events both on- and off-campus, including liaising with internal stakeholders, coordinating external suppliers and supporting logistics.
  • Provide practical support to other Outreach and Access initiatives as required, including those led by Faculties, Indigenous Engagement & Success, Pathways, and other areas of the University.
  • Perform other responsibilities, commensurate with the expectations of a role at this level, which contribute to the overall objectives of the Office.
     

ABOUT YOU  

  • Supportive of the Objects of Notre Dame as a Catholic University.
  • Prior experience working with students or communities from low socio-economic backgrounds, from regional and remote areas, or Indigenous Australians.
  • Possession of a relevant degree level qualification or equivalent combination of relevant work experience and education/training.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the secondary or tertiary education sector and factors impacting the participation rates of equity cohorts.
  • Demonstrated excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to work sensitively and respectfully with diverse community groups, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
  • Proven ability to collaborate and work with internal and external stakeholder groups to achieve a shared purpose.
  • Strong time management and organisational skills with a demonstrated ability to respond to changing priorities, meet deadlines, and manage multiple tasks.
  • Possession of a current Working With Children Check and a Class C drivers license.
