About NAPCo
The North Australian Pastoral Company (NAPCo) was founded in 1877 and is one of Australia's leading beef cattle companies, managing over 6.1 million hectares and home of Australia's First Carbon Neutral Beef - Five Founders. NAPCo employs approximately 220 staff operating across Queensland and the Northern Territory, with 14 cattle stations, a Depot in Mount Isa, a Feedlot and Farm in the Darling Downs and an office in Brisbane's CBD.
 
Alexandria Station
Alexandria Station is located on the Barkly Tableland in the Northern Territory and is NAPCo's oldest property, acquired in 1877, and includes the Gallipoli Outstation. Alexandria spans just over 1 million hectares and is home to NAPCo’s Alexandria composite stud.
 
The role
Reporting to the Station Manager, the Overseer is responsible for the day-to-day operations working alongside Gallipoli Outstation Overseer. The Overseer leads two stock crews managing daily operations, executing the work program, and assisting with property development. This is a new position expanding the leadership team at Alexandria Station to commence on station now.
 
Day to day duties include:
  • Managing the day-to-day operations of the station working with the Station Manager and other Overseers
  • Demonstrating and undertaking best practice animal husbandry by maintaining the highest standards of animal welfare
  • Undertaking mustering, drafting, cattle husbandry and movement of cattle in line with operational requirements
  • Support the Station Manager in the development of operational plans and provide instructions to team members.
  • Leading, training and developing staff
  • Prioritising workloads and setting clear work expectations
  • Promoting a safe work environment through embedding safe systems of work
  • Ensuring infrastructure, property assets, machinery, vehicles and equipment are maintained to a high standard
  • Maintaining accurate records for, including but not limited to, stock movements, treatments, supplement issue and consumption etc
  • Hosting contractors and visitors
  • Maintaining an inclusive and positive culture, that aligns to NAPCo’s broader standards
Ideally the successful candidate will have/be:
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience working on a cattle station with at least two years at a leadership level
  • Experience working on a breeding property (highly regarded, though not mandatory)
  • Experience in herd, pasture and water management
  • Experienced stockperson who is very confident in handling stock on horses or motorbikes and is confident with aerial mustering
  • Accomplished Horse rider with demonstrated experience in training and development of young horses
  • Strong people leadership skills, an effective communication style with a strong focus on safety and employee wellbeing
  • The ability to build and maintain working relationships with key stakeholders internal and external, including active participation within the local community
  • Intermediate computer skills, including but not limited to Word, Excel and Microsoft Outlook
  • A MR or HR Licence (or willingness to get one)
  • Weapons License (or ability to get one)
  • Accurate record keeping and sound administration skills
  • Good organisational skills and the ability to change priorities to meet deadlines
