The Hospital:
The Hospital is a 360-bed public hospital that has a large range of services in all specialty areas. It has a 24 hours emergency department and is the largest hospital in the Northern territory. Some of the services at the hospital are Anaesthetics, Cardiology, Emergency, Intensive Care and Surgery, Medicine, Pathology and Radiology and many other services.
The Respiratory team based at the Hospital provides clinical services to a vast geographical region of the Top End -NT (in-patient, outpatient and Remote/outreach clinics). This fosters a complex array of both acute and chronic respiratory conditions
The team frequently travel to remote and regional communities to conduct regular clinics. This provides an excellent opportunity to coordinate with local medical teams and work with large Indigenous population.
Respiratory Registrars will have opportunities to conduct clinics (RDH and outreach clinics), in patient consultations, assist/learn pleural procedures, lung function/sleep study reporting and bronchoscopy. Learning opportunities are widened by strong links and collaboration between Infectious Diseases unit (including tuberculosis services), Cardiology, Radiology, Radiotherapy, ICU, Oncology and thoracic surgical services.
