PAEDIATRIC - REGISTRAR | BASED IN BEAUTIFUL SOUTH TASMANIA 

Our client is seeking a motivated and experienced Registrar in Paediatrics.

  • The registrar position is accredited by the RACP and would be also be suitable for a Paediatric advanced trainee with an interest in Adolescent Medicine 

  • It is the capital and most populous city of the Australian island state of Tasmania 

  • The Hospital is the tertiary referral hospital for Tasmania and is the principal teaching hospital for the University of Tasmania Medical School. 

  • Base salary of between $91,442 - $129,391pa 

The Position: 

This hospital is the major paediatric and neonatal referral service, as well as the major university teaching hospital for the state of Tasmania. There is an active registrar training program with research actively encouraged and supported through links with the University of Tasmania and Menzies Research Institute.  

The Department of Paediatrics is managed by a team of full-time and VMO specialists in Neonatology, (& Retrieval), Paediatric Intensive Care, Oncology, Neurology, AYAM, Rehabilitation Medicine, Developmental Paediatrics, Community Paediatrics, Paediatric Surgery, Child Psychiatry, Emergency Medicine and General Paediatrics. 

The Adolescent Registrar will assist in the care of young people in our new in-patient adolescent ward and in outpatient services and will participate in some cover of the paediatric ward after hours and on weekends.   

The registrar position is accredited by the RACP and would be also be suitable for a Paediatric advanced trainee with an interest in Adolescent Medicine. 

The Paediatric Department offers a truly extraordinary range of experience for Paediatric trainees with excellent consultant support on-site. 

The Hospital: 

It’s the second oldest hospital in Australia and the largest hospital in Tasmania. The Hospital is the tertiary referral hospital for Tasmania and is the principal teaching hospital for the University of Tasmania Medical School.  The Hospital provides most specialist medical services for the region. 

It provides acute, sub-acute, mental health and aged care inpatient and ambulatory services to a population of about 250,000 people in the southern region. 

Also, the hospital provides a comprehensive range of general and specialty medical and surgical services including many state-wide services such as cardiac surgery, neurosurgery, extensive burns treatment, hyperbaric medicine, neonatal and paediatric intensive care and high risk obstetrics. 

The Emergency Department opened in March 2007. The department includes an assessment and planning and a short stay observation unit. ED has approximately 60,000 presentations per year. 

The Older Persons Unit (OPU) has 16 beds at the hospital and for acutely unwell older patients, providing input to the Orthopaedic ward with Orthogeriatrics service and consultation work to all wards within the hospital.
