What is the role?

Applications are sought from suitably qualified applicants wishing to be considered for the role of Partnerships and Outreach Officer - Human Exploitation in Crime Command. 

The complexity, breadth and pace of AFP Human Exploitation will require you to anticipate and adapt to changing work priorities and be dynamic and flexible in your approach to day-to-day work. Your contribution will be meaningful, rewarding and deliver tangible outcomes to enhance and bolster law enforcement capabilities and operational efforts to counter child exploitation and human trafficking.

The Partnerships and Outreach Team has responsibility for identifying and fostering beneficial partnerships between law enforcement and external stakeholders including non-government organisations, industry, and partner agencies to drive mutually beneficial outcomes to meet the strategic objectives of Human Exploitation.

As the Partnerships and Outreach Offer, you will be contributing to the delivery of strategic initiatives, projects and maintaining partnerships that support and raise the operational profile of the Australian Centre to Counter Child Exploitation, child protection and human trafficking.

You will also be required to contribute to the achievement of outcomes in accordance with the regulatory framework, the AFP Code of Conduct and the AFP Governance Instruments. It is expected that the successful applicant will deliver on the core responsibilities and meet any requirements of the position as outlined below.

What will you do?

  • Assist in the development and delivery of evidence-based projects to meet the strategic objectives of the Partnerships and Outreach Team
  • Develop project plans, communication and stakeholder engagement strategies
  • Explore opportunities to raise awareness of issues and trends relating to child protection and human trafficking, the role of the AFP and operational outcomes
  • Foster relationships with key stakeholders, including internal and external stakeholders
  • Develop and maintain crime type subject matter expertise, including undertaking regular environmental scanning
  • Provide effective and efficient coordination and administrative support
  • Event management and logistics support for multi-stakeholder events and meetings
  • Support attendance at stakeholder events and meetings as required
  • Assist in the development and coordination of correspondence, ministerial enquiries, executive briefings, evaluations, MOU and governance, or reporting requirements
  • Assist in the delivery of presentations and briefings to stakeholders

Essential Requirements

  • You must be an Australian Citizen at the time of application
  • A Negative Vetting 1 (Secret) security clearance or the ability to obtain one
  • Strong communication and organisational skills
  • Highly motivated and self-driven
  • Ability to be flexible and dynamic in response to changing business priorities
  • Ability to cultivate collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders and manage complex partnerships
  • Experience in delivery of strategic initiatives and projects
  • Ability to complete psychological clearance pathways

Child Protection is a high risk psychological impact area. Prior to commencing in the area, and throughout their tenure, applicants will be required to undertake and satisfy specific psychological testing to work in the area.

Desirable Requirements

The following skills and/or experience would be highly regarded:

  • Relevant qualifications, extensive knowledge or experience in communications, social media, marketing, public relations, business or a related field
  • Contemporary knowledge in Human Exploitation related topics (child protection or human trafficking)
  • Experience or knowledge in project management or ability to acquire

Additional Information

  • This position is an AFP Band Level 5
  • This position has been advertised in multiple locations however, the role is located in Brisbane, Queensland. Successful applicants must be willing to relocate to Brisbane and work from the Australian Centre to Counter Child Exploitation.
  • Proof of a minimum of two COVID-19 vaccinations (or one dose if the Janssen vaccine was used) will be required if an offer of employment is made.
