Job description

The Role

Provide technical support to Medical Scientists in the provision of diagnostic services to the Agency and external clients.

Apply conventional practices, methods and standards in the Microbiology and Molecular departments under the general technical direction and supervision of scientific staff.

You will be: 

  • Working in a Microbiology tertiary reference laboratory at the Royal Hobart Hospital.
  • Working as part of a team to provide high quality diagnostic microbiology.

Details of Appointment

Permanent, full-time or part-time day worker position/s, working up to 76 hours per fortnight, commencing March 2024.

*notwithstanding hours may be negotiated with the successful applicant

  • Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time and part time vacancies.

Salary 

$71,661 - $77,455 pro rata per annum + our Employer 11% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.

You’ll have access to salary package a range of benefits including living expenses up to $9,010 + $2,650 in meal entertainment each FBT year + other benefits if eligible.

Salary range is in accordance with Health and Human Services (Tasmanian State Service) Award

Eligibility

Successful applicants will be required to meet the essential criteria:

  • An Associate Diploma from a recognise tertiary institution, or an *equivalent qualification, appropriate to the nature of the work.
  • *Knowledge and expertise consistent with qualifications recognised at Certificate III and IV or equivalent level.

Applicants should note the following criteria are desirable:

  • Previous experience in a diagnostic microbiology/molecular biology laboratory or in the area of sterilisation.

Applicants should note the position features:

  • Weekends and on-call required maybe required out of hours.

The Head of the State Service has determined that the person nominated for this job is to satisfy a pre‑employment check before taking up the appointment, on promotion or transfer. The following checks are to be conducted:

  1. Conviction checks in the following areas:
  • crimes of violence
  • sex related offences
  • serious drug offences
  • crimes involving dishonesty.

  2. Disciplinary action in previous employment check.
