Job description

As a successful applicant in the Athletes Authority internship, you’ll be responsible for assisting the performance and rehab departments in delivering incredible athlete experiences, while enjoying the benefits of one of the most hands-on, practical, and insightful learning experiences that private-sector athlete development has to offer. Over 26 weeks of hands-on learning, you'll work through our prestigious 6-month learning curriculum which has been responsible for catapulting dozens of aspiring coaches and physios into great careers in sport. Unlike most internships that border on exploitative, our internships opens remarkable doors into the industry and sets you up for a career of success.Key Character Traits:

  • You will need to love making athletes feel special, supported, and encouraged, with the ability to connect and get buy-in from a wide range of personality types.
  • You need to be the type of person who sees commitments through until completion and enjoys being a helpful member of the team.
  • You will need to be the type of person who is a sponge for learning, can adapt quickly, and enjoys surpassing expectations.
Accountabilities Overview:As a Performance and Rehab intern, you are much more than just a silent observer on the gym floor -- you're a coach and an important member of our team. You assist the core coaching team in delivering incredible athlete experiences by providing coaching and support within our training systems and framework, while adding to the energy of the gym floor by being an all-round, great person. Over the course of the internship, and as you get more comfortable in our training environment, you'll gain more responsibility, leading warm ups, individual training sessions with athletes, and even working with our affiliated sports clubs as part of the on-field trainer outfit.Mindset and Approach:Given that you'll be working alongside a wide-range of athletes, the ideal candidate will thrive at:
  • Understanding that your key expectation is to make athletes feel valued, special and appreciated.
  • Open-minded, ready to learn, and past the first 'hump' of the Dunning-Kruger effect.
  • Being reliable, honourable and someone who sees their commitments through (if you're flakey, please don't apply).
Key Responsibilities: * Meet, greet and make athletes feel welcome.
  • Coach and then coach some more.
  • Turn up to PD every week ready to learn.
  • Apply everything you learn to improve the athlete experience.
The Commitment:The internship is a 26-week intensive learning curriculum where you spend 10-15 hours on the gym floor applying our training system in practice (hours are flexible around your existing commitments, although we don't accept free loaders who want all the PD and benefits without getting their hands dirty on the gym floor). Each intake will offer a select few opportunities to benefit from paid work within our sports affiliations.Requirements:Graduated Sports and Exercise Scientist or Physiotherapist is approved, although we will consider excellent, stand-out Cert IV in Fitness candidates.Desirable CriteriaApplication InstructionPlease submit a 1-page cover letter alongside your resume to Nathan Williams, our Melbourne Head of Performance ( ). If you fail to follow this process, your application, no matter how great, will be immediately discarded.
