Remuneration: Successful applicants will receive a generous scholarship covering tuition fees and a tax-free stipend at current value of AU$37,000 per annum (up to $47,000 per annum for outstanding students).
Additional financial support is available through research and teaching assistance work.

Economics of child maltreatment and child protection
There is a critical need for evidence-informed policies that prevent child maltreatment and reduce its harms. The PhD thesis will build evidence on the causes and consequences of child maltreatment and child protection involvement. Possible topics include: (i) estimating the impact of economic hardship on child maltreatment; (ii) exploring the economic consequences of child maltreatment and involvement with child protection services; and (iii) modelling the effectiveness of economic policies in reducing child maltreatment. The successful PhD candidate will work under the primary supervision of and , and will have the opportunity to work with other senior academics at Monash University, including Professor Maarten Lindeboom.
Economics of health professionals' labour markets
The health workforce is crucial in meeting health system objectives of high-value health care and ensuring access to populations most in need. Possible topics include health professionals' well-being, the effects of competition and regulation, gender issues in medical labour markets, and the impact of financial incentives and other policies. The focus could be on the medical, nursing and/or allied health workforce in different sectors (public/private, primary care, hospitals, aged care). The successful PhD candidate will work under the primary supervision of and will have the opportunity to work with other senior academics at the Centre for Health Economics.
Climate change, human capital and economic inequity
Marginalised communities often bear the brunt of climate change-related events, facing heightened health risks and loss of education opportunities. These uneven impacts highlight the need to address inequities to protect and develop human capital across society in the face of a changing climate. This research will work on the impacts of climate change-related events, such as extreme temperatures and natural disasters, on human capital outcomes and the associated social and economic inequities. The successful PhD candidate will work under the primary supervision of and , and will also have the opportunity to work with other senior academics at Monash University.
PhD entry requirements and scholarship eligibility
Applicants should have a 4-year Bachelor degree or 2-year Masters degree in economics, econometrics or a related quantitative discipline, demonstrated research experience, and strong academic results.
