Our studio is well established for over 15 years in Sydney's North Shore. Our main profile is maternity, newborn, family and business portraits but we do product photography as well.
The Studio has an extensive returning clientele, but strong efforts are made to develop new business in this very competitive market.

Photographer apprenticeships - what it takes
Skills and knowledge
You'll need:

  • customer service skills
  • excellent verbal communication skills
  • to be thorough and pay attention to detail
  • the ability to work well with others
  • knowledge of the fine arts
  • to be flexible with your schedule in relatively short notice
  • patience and the ability to remain calm in stressful situations
  • to be able to use a computer and the main software packages confidently
Photographer apprenticeships - what you'll do
Day-to-day tasks
Photoshoot
  • Participate in the pre-shoot consultation with the client and agree the scope
  • prepare the location for the photo session
  • choose the right equipment and set up lighting
  • compose and take photos
  • compose and shoot behind the scene videos
  • arrange props, settings, prepare gowns as per the agreed scope with the clients
Photo post processing
  • use Photoshop, Lightroom to edit and process images and videos
  • check accurate colour match and image quality
  • choose the best images for the client for the presentation
  • make touch-ups if necessary
Marketing and client support
  • Compose product and promotional PDFs
  • Create facebook and google adsets
  • Create, edit webpages in WIX and Wordpress
  • Create email/SMS campaigns
  • Collect and manage client enquiries
  • Call customers to answer questions, explain the process and value of the services
  • Send customer instant messages/emails/SMS to respond their enquiries
  • Help the clients to select the right packages
  • Assist clients to make bookings
  • Manage CRM
  • Assist clients with booking changes
Business Management
  • Manage Janette's calendar
  • Organize the schedule of the make-up artist
  • Send out invoices and reminders if payments outstanding
Working environment
You could work in a creative studio. Your working environment may be physically demanding and outdoors. But always fun!
Career path and progression - Photographer apprenticeships
Many photographers are freelance and you could do a mix of contract work and following your own interests. You could extend your range into other areas of photography like product, property, aerial or corporate work. With training, you could also work as a press or police photographer.
If you do specialist qualifications, you could find jobs in medical photography or illustration. You may decide to become self-employed and set up your own business. Photography is very competitive, so you'll need creativity and technical skills to make money. You'll also need finance for equipment, a space to work in, and some business and admin skills. You could increase your income by selling your images independently.
