About the role
The role of the Piping Designer is to develop piping design that incorporates best practice, safety in design, constructability and operability considerations.
The Piping Designer is also responsible for producing 3D models and 2D design developed in line with process and instrumentation diagrams, company standards, and specific project requirements.
In this position you’ll:
Be involved in the design and engineering of MRL’s many greenfields and brownfields projects.
Be involved from early design through to detailed design execution for varying mining operations including Lithium and Iron Ore.
Produce well designed and accurate 3D models, isometrics, and 2D layouts.
Interface with the engineering teams during the model development of assigned plant areas.
Ensure vendor information including valves, instrumentation and pumps are accurately included in the designs.
Efficiently complete work in a timely manner.

Necessary skills and qualifications:
Tertiary Qualifications in Mechanical Engineering.
Experience in using Helix or Sidewinder conveyor design software.
Relevant Advanced Diploma, Diploma or Associate Degree in Mechanical or Piping Engineering.
Good to high level of proficiency with AutoCAD 3D, AutoCAD Plant 3D, Navisworks. Prosteel modelling is desirable.
Proficient with ISO 2D generating from AutoCAD Plant 3D, and 2D-ISO piping detailing.
Fluent with reading and developing P&ID’s, PFD’s and piping standards.
A keen eye for detail and the ability to introduce innovation in problem solving.
Engineering and design experience with materials handling equipment including crushing, screening and conveying components.
5+ years of experience in mining and utilities design work.
Previous design Engineering experience with similar large scale mining construction projects.
Strong written, verbal communication and team membership skills.
Strong project management skills.
Desire to implement and follow through on multiple issues and projects to achieve productive results.
High level of PC literacy across Microsoft Office Packages and Mechanical, Civil & Structural drafting packages.
