The Department of Planning, Lands and Heritage is seeking an experienced, collaborative Leader to undertake the role of the Planning Director.

The Planning Director of Precinct and Projects provides collaborative leadership and expert, strategic advice and analysis across design and planning relating to major projects and development, urban renewal, planned precincts and major infrastructure projects.

You will be working collaborative with the Executive Director and leading a multidisciplinary team, providing high level advice around all major infrastructure projects.

This is a permanent fulltime position. This process may be used to fill future similar permanent or fixed-term positions that may arise across the WA public sector in the next 12 months from the initial date of appointment. Located in Perth CBD in a convenient location, above the Perth Underground rail, close to the Wellington Street Bus Station and City CAT services.

To be successful for this position, you need to demonstrate:

  • Substantial relevant experience in precinct planning and delivering major projects for State Government, including taking responsibility for project management, and leading and managing a multidisciplinary team to collaborate and deliver projects, initiatives and integrated approvals across Government.
  • Demonstrated ability to consult and advise Executive and senior levels of Government on complex projects and initiatives, working with a broad range of stakeholders across Government, local government and the sector to deliver Government priorities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills, with a demonstrated ability to represent the Department at working parties, committees and meetings, including navigating environmental and planning approvals, and design review for major projects and initiatives.
  • Tertiary degree qualification relevant to one of the following: architecture; landscape architecture; urban design; urban and regional planning and/or development.
  • Demonstrate the behaviours within the leadership context of Leading Leaders as outlined below.
