Our Sydney Planning and Environment group seeks a highly skilled and ambitious lawyer at the Associate to Senior Associate level to join their cohesive and successful team.
Our Planning and Environment team is engaged in a wide range of litigation, advisory and contractual matters across a diverse client range spanning both the public and private sectors.
It is currently an exciting time for the team, which has grown in recent years in terms of volume and type of work, and which is committed to ensuring that you develop your skills and experience in this specialist area while offering a supportive team culture and balance.
About the role
This role will see you involved closely and actively on a range of litigation matters in the Land and Environment Court, prominent advisory matters, and drafting matters such as planning agreements, for a sophisticated client base including high net value developers, institutional developers and Government.
The practice enjoys a balance between top-level State Government and Council clients, and private sector clients. Types of matters you will work on include:
- Class 1, Class 3, Class 4 and Class 5 Land and Environment Court litigation
- Planning advice on issues such as permissibility, statutory interpretation of planning instruments, development contributions, environmental law compliance, contamination, Aboriginal land rights, and administrative law
- Drafting of some of the most prominent planning agreements in NSW, as well as associated agreements such as works-in-kind agreements
Experience in Land and Environment Court litigation is necessary, as is proven experience in statutory interpretation and drafting of legal advice and correspondence. Experience drafting planning agreements is highly desirable. An eye for detail, accuracy and precision in legal reasoning and writing is essential.
