The Opportunity
We are looking for a suitably qualified and experienced Plant Operator (Grader) to join our Operations Team for operating the Shire’s plant and to assist in delivering the Shire works program and maintenance of roads and drainage and other works in the Kununurra site and surrounds.
This role is responsible for:
- Undertaking duties relating to maintenance and construction projects that enhance or modify Shire roads, drainage and traffic infrastructure, parks, sporting facilities, public open spaces, reserves, streets, ablutions and Shire facilities;
- Operating plant and equipment in a safe and competent manner as per the Shire of Wyndham East Kimberley guidelines and training;
- Ensuring daily pre-operational checks and prescribed plant/machinery maintenance are carried out fully and all faults or defects are reported;
- Maximising the efficiency of the plant and machinery on all tasks;
- Interpreting plans and drawings of road and drainage maintenance and construction;
- Attending and participating in team meetings, inductions and training and following organisational specific procedures and processes when/where required;
- Utilising initiative to solve routine problems and determine ways to improve efficiency and performance.
A Certificate III in Grader operations to Final trim, Civil Construction or Machinery Operations, current Blue/White Construction Safety Card, current Plant Operator’s certificates and unrestricted WA ‘HR’ Class Driver’s Licence are essential for this role, as is demonstrated ability to safely operate heavy plant and experience and knowledge of drainage maintenance with sealed and unsealed roads, and working knowledge of grading and road reserve maintenance. You will also have the ability to provide good customer service and to provide a high level of service to members of the public.

We are offering a remuneration package inclusive of allowances and Superannuation of up to $90,000 (dependent on skills and experience) per annum.
