The Australasian Institute of Digital Health (AIDH) is a not-for-profit organisation limited by guarantee and a registered charity. We exist at the intersection of healthcare and technology. Our small, focused team, supported by hundreds of volunteers, are helping to build and support the healthcare system of the future.

The Role

The Policy and Advocacy Director leads the Policy and Advocacy team of AIDH.  The purpose of the role is to develop and implement Policy and Advocacy programs designed to position AIDH as the authority and leading advocate for advancing digital health in Australia.  

The role is responsible for harnessing the expertise of the digital health community to articulate AIDH’s position on key topics in digital health.  Together with other senior managers, the Policy & Advocacy Director maintains and builds partnerships and coalitions with other organisations who collaborate on our endeavours; and creates or identifies opportunities for advocacy and commercial partnerships, contributing to their development.  The role provides information that is valued by stakeholders and impacts practice and policy nationally.  

Key Areas of Responsibility

Strategic Planning and implementation - In line with the overall company strategy, lead the AIDH Policy & Advocacy (P&A) division; develop and implement the leadership and Advocacy strategy and positions for the organisation, which result in opportunities that strengthen AIDH’s brand, reputation and reach.  

Articulate AIDH’s position on key topics in digital healthEnsure AIDH’s positions on key issues concerning digital health are known and respected, and stakeholders recognise AIDH for the excellence of its subject matter content.  

Harness the expertise of the digital health community to encourage knowledge translationIn conjunction with other senior managers, collaborate with AIDH’s governing bodies and Fellows to ensure they make active, professional contributions to the Policy and Advocacy output, which are outcome-oriented and highly valued by AIDH stakeholders   

Contribute to commercial outcomes for AIDH - Identify opportunities and contribute to the development of commercial opportunities for AIDH, which result in revenue opportunities for the business and strengthen AIDH’s brand, reputation and reach. 

What success looks like in this role: 

Senior executives and stakeholders across the health sector (hospitals, primary health networks, universities, government etc) recognise AIDH as the leading authority on digital health. 

Fellows and Members are attracted to AIDH by the visibility and value created by our advocacy work, and they have opportunities to participate in Policy and Advocacy programs.

Media regularly seeks commentary on all things digital health from us, and we see a greater emphasis on digital health in reporting related to health policy, health reform, health equity and sustainability.

Politicians and government recognise our expertise and listen to our advice – much of which is acted on. 

Strong relationships with other peak bodies (eg clinical colleges) as part of a ‘coalition’ where we regularly collaborate on programs and activities and they seek out AIDH’s value and unique expertise.

Policy and Advocacy programs generate income (direct and indirect), to help diversify AIDH’s income streams and grow the Policy and Advocacy division. 

What you will bring to the role to succeed

  • Extensive (10+ years) public policy research and analysis experience 
  • First-rate stakeholder management skills 
  • Strong team management skills
  • Experience in policy formulation, implementation and analysis 
  • Experience in advocacy and campaigning 
  • Experience in program development, implementation and management 
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the health sector, including the role of government and professional bodies 
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills 
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and negotiation skills 
  • Government Policy and engagement experience, with a proven record of successfully convincing policy-makers and/or executive decision-makers to implement a policy or make tangible change 
  • Proven history of effectively interacting with senior executives and managing different community groups  
  • Proven history in building relationships and meeting financial targets 
  • Advanced proficiency with MS Office 365  
  • Excellent presentation skills
