About the Role

As a Research Fellow in Generative AI, you will play a critical role in the Australian Research Council Centre of Excellence for Automated Decision-Making and Society (ADM+S) project on Generative Authenticity. This three-year initiative aims to explore and mitigate the risks posed by generative AI in disrupting critical services, while developing and evaluating defenses to safeguard legitimate users. Working alongside top researchers from leading Australian universities, you will conduct groundbreaking research, publish your findings, and engage in collaborative efforts with the Centre's extensive network of international experts and industry partners. Additionally, you will have opportunities for professional development, teaching, and research supervision within the vibrant academic community of the School of Computing and Information Systems.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Independently plan and carry out research on the nominated research project, work towards completion of the aims of the project, and publish results of your research in top-tier venues;
  • Develop effective timelines and milestones based on goals of the research programme;
  • Contribute to teaching, training, scientific mentoring and supervision of students, including co-supervision of research projects for students at Masters or PhD level;

Who We Are Looking For

You will have a strong ability to communicate complex research concepts to both technical and nontechnical audiences, coupled with excellent skills in data analysis, problem-solving, and experimental evaluation of machine learning algorithms. Your proven experience in working independently, prioritizing tasks, and effectively engaging with stakeholders, along with exceptional written and verbal communication skills demonstrated through presentations and publications, will be key to your success in this role.

You will also have:

  • A PhD in computer science or closely related discipline;
  • A record of high-quality algorithmic research in machine learning (and preferably generative AI), as evidenced by publications in leading journals and conferences in the fields of artificial intelligence and machine learning, commensurate with opportunity
  • Ability to perform independent research in machine learning, and a commitment to interdisciplinary research;
