The School of Chemistry are welcoming applications for a Postdoctoral Research Associate in Self-Assembled Ionic Liquids to work on an Australian Research Council (ARC) funded postdoctoral position carrying out research into surfactant self-assembly structures formed in Ionic Liquids and their solutions. Working closely with Professor Gregory Warr and his team, the successful candidate will have experience in carrying out neutron and X-ray small-angle scattering experiments and interpreting scattering patterns from disordered surfactant systems, as well as the use of isotopic labelling in neutron experiments. The successful candidate will also have an advanced understanding of the fundamentals of surfactant self-assembly and phase equilibria.
Experience with amphiphilic systems out of equilibrium, such as under shear flow or during extraction or other processes, will be an advantage, as will be experience with other characterisation techniques such as NMR, thermal analysis, and vibrational or electronic spectroscopy. Your key responsibilities will be to:work cooperatively with members of the research group of Prof. Warr and his collaborators including Prof. Atkin at the University of Western Australia, and instrument scientists at neutron and x-ray facilitiestake responsibility for progressing experimental research into self-assembly of surface active Ionic Liquids (SAILs) under shearjointly supervise junior members of the research grouppresent your work in various forms including preparing manuscript drafts for publication. About you
The University values courage and creativity; openness and engagement; inclusion and diversity; and respect and integrity. As such, we see the importance of recruiting talent aligned to these values and are looking for a Postdoctoral Research Associate in Self-Assembled Ionic Liquids who has:a PhD in Chemistry or a relevant fieldan advanced understanding of the fundamentals of surfactant self-assembly and phase equilibriaexperience with amphiphilic systems out of equilibrium, such as under shear flow or during extraction or other processesdemonstrated experience with other characterisation techniques such as NMR, thermal analysis, and vibrational or electronic spectroscopy. To keep our community safe, please be aware of our COVID safety precautions which form our conditions of entry for all staff, students and visitors coming to campus.
Pre-employment checks
Your employment is conditional upon the completion of all role required pre-employment or background checks in terms satisfactory to the University. Similarly, your ongoing employment is conditional upon the satisfactory maintenance of all relevant clearances and background check requirements.
