About the opportunity

The School of Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering is currently seeking a Postdoctoral ResearchAssociate on Green Electrochemical Transformationof Carbon Dioxide position that is funded by The University of Sydney and the ARC Centre of Excellence for Green Electrochemical Transformation of Carbon Dioxide. GETCO2 is a new research center funded by the Australian Research Council and seven leading Australian universities with multiple international university partners. We seek to appoint a Postdoctoral Research Associate with expertise in catalysts and electrochemical Carbon Dioxide conversion.

The Postdoctoral Research Associate will work in Professor Yuan Chen's team at the University of Sydney, collaborating closely with other researchers in GETCO2. Suitably qualified applicants should have demonstrated experience in synthesising electrocatalysts, catalyst electrochemical performance tests using different electrolysers, characterising electrocatalysts using ex-situ and in-situ tools, and publishing in high-impact scientific journals. Additional experiences in collaboration with researchers on DFT and molecular dynamic modelling will be ideal for this position.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

• manage own academic research and administrative activities. This involves small-scale project management to coordinate multiple aspects of work to meet deadlines
• adopt existing and develop new scientific techniques and experimental protocols
• train postgraduate and undergraduate students on scientific techniques and experimental protocols
• undertake comprehensive and systematic literature reviews and write the results for publication in high-impact journals
• prepare journal articles based on experimental results for publication in high-impact journals
• develop new research ideas and present detailed proposals for competitive grants or fellowship applications
• ensure that all aspects of the research program are conducted according to WHS regulations.

About you

• a PhD in chemistry (electrochemistry)/chemical engineering/material science and engineering (or other closely related field) from a reputable institution
• a good track record of publications in top journals in the electrochemical Carbon Dioxide conversion field
• experience in catalysts and electrochemical Carbon Dioxide reduction
• experience in catalyst characterisation, e.g., SEM/TEM/XRD/Raman XAS/physisorption/electrochemical tools
• experience in assembly and conducting electrochemical tests using different types of electrolysers
• experience in product characterisations using GC/HPLC/NMR
• excellent communication and interpersonal skills with high written and spoken English competency.
