  • VPS Grade 6: $130,673 - $174,869 plus superannuation.
About the Unit:
The Victims of Crime Commissioner is an independent statutory officer who advocates for victims of crime in their dealings with the justice system and government agencies. This means the Commissioner is not part of government or other agencies in the justice system. The Commissioner actively advocates for systemic reforms, such as changes to the law, that bring about cultural change and recognise victims' as participants in the justice system.
The CEO's Office supports the Commissioner to meet the role's statutory obligations and ensure business systems and processes are in place to manage the intersections across the Commissioner's statutory functions.
About the Role:
The Principal Adviser, Communications and Advocacy will operate at a strategic level as part of the senior leadership team.
Some of your duties will include:
  • Leading and delivering a fully integrated media, Communications and content strategy, including day-to-day communications activities and the creation of communication tools that are inclusive for diverse audiences.
  • Leading and delivering the VOCC Office advocacy strategy to progress the Commissioner's systemic advocacy goals to improve victims' experiences in the justice system.
  • Delivering awareness raising campaigns to strengthen targeted audience awareness of the Victims of Crime Commissioner's role, including the right to complain if justice agencies and/or victims' services breach the principles of the Victims' Charter.

About You:
To be successful in this role, you will have:
  • A deep understanding of both traditional media and digital channels with established media networks and an understanding of the media landscape and how to proactively identify news and content opportunities.
  • Knowledge of advocacy and public policy approaches including demonstrated influence with government.
  • Familiarity with working in a legislative context and working within statutory framework.
Qualifications:
  • Tertiary qualification in communication, media, public relations, public policy or politics would be highly regarded.
