The Environment Protection Authority (EPA) is South Australia’s independent environment protection regulator. The organisation works to protect, restore and improve the environment through the risk-based regulation of pollution, waste, noise and radiation. The EPA works closely with industry, the community and government to protect the unique natural environment while supporting economic growth and improving wellbeing. The EPA is responsible for the administration of the Environment Protection Act 1993 (EP Act) and the Radiation Protection and Control Act 2021 (RPC Act) and also exercises responsibilities under other South Australian planning and environmental legislation.About the Role
The Principal Adviser - Port Pirie and Nyrstar provides high level advice regarding the administration of the statutory requirements of the EP Act and is responsible for leading a number of work functions within the Branch. The position will also provide a project management approach to the management of EPA resources required and lead effective regulation of Nyrstar Port Pirie operations. The position will lead the central coordination and tracking function for the EPA’s contribution to SA Government commitments to improving environmental conditions in Port Pirie through the whole of government lead abatement programme.What the EPA Offers

A degree in Science, Engineering, Environmental Management or a related discipline.Desirable Qualifications

  • Post Graduate qualification in an environmental science, environmental engineering or environmental management related field.
  • Qualifications in business/project management or a related field.
  • Experience in using innovation to develop solutions to problems.
  • Experience in a regulatory environment.
  • Knowledge of national and state environmental goals, policies and programs.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the provisions of the EP Act.
  • Knowledge of public sector requirements for ethical conduct, WHS, Diversity in the Workplace, Equal Employment Opportunity and Performance Management
Remuneration
PO4 ($109,060 - $118,690 per annum) + 11% super to your choice of superfund.Contract
Long term contract (until 30 June 2026) and full time (37.5 hours per week).Special Conditions
  • This role has been designated as a Position of Trust pursuant to the standards required in the Australian Government Protective Security Policy Framework. A current National Police Clearance is essential.
  • The incumbent will occasionally be required to travel to sites in country areas and interstate.
  • The incumbent may be required to work out of hours and as the need arises.
  • A current driver’s licence is essential.
