Purpose

 

Provides commercial expertise in capturing the next generation of copper and nickel mineral deposits to grow the portfolio of assets for BHP.  The role is responsible for managing and negotiating commercial agreements between BHP and external partners.  You will play a crucial role in securing favorable terms, maintaining positive relationships and maximizing value for BHP.

The position reports to the Manager Capture and requires principal level skills and leadership capability.  The position will be in Perth, Australia. 
 

About the Role

 

•    Originates, negotiates, recommends and executes commercial opportunities (including transactions with external partners) that are aligned with BHP's strategy and portfolio priorities.  
•    Frames, evaluates and communicates the risk-reward proposition of strategies, plans and decisions; improves negotiation tactics, investment methodologies, processes, capabilities and culture to enhance investment decision quality, to maximise the long-term value of BHP.  
•    Translates corporate objectives into actionable plans, communicating, managing and analysing the implementation of those plans, and reporting back on their progress to facilitate the delivery of our strategy.  
•    Identifies, engages and manages a range of diverse internal stakeholders to align negotiation strategies with organization objectives.  
•    Builds and maintains strong relationships with external networks foster long-term collaboration and future partnerships.
•    Plans, tracks the delivery of and manages a project to generate value and drive the achievement of project outcomes.  
•    Conducts presentations and facilitates workshops using storytelling to connect, influence and engage the audience.  
•    Applies intelligence on industry trends and market dynamics to inform negotiation tactics and drive enhanced decision making and planning.  
•    Undertakes due diligence audits/investigations and tracks the findings to evaluate and recommend appropriate courses of action.  
•    Engages the capabilities of the entire organisation.  
•    Strives to achieve 100% safety, 100% customer value and 0% waste.  
•    Knows our customer and is obsessed with meeting their needs.  

 

About You

 

•    You successfully completed a business, finance, law or a related undergraduate degree: postgraduate qualifications are preferred.
•    Proven experience in Commercial Negotiations, contract management or business development roles.
•    Strong understanding of commercial law, contract principles and negotiation strategies.
•    Excellent communication, persuasion and interpersonal skills.
•    Ability to analyze complex issues, identify key priorities and propose effective solutions.
•    Detail oriented with a high level of accuracy in contract drafting and review.
•    Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
•    Experience in the natural resources industry. 
•    You relate well with people, build strong working relationships, and embrace diversity of thinking or problem solving.
•    You are strategic, work well with ambiguity, identify key drivers of value and uncertainty, manage multiple work streams and meet multiple deadlines.
•    You have excellent organizational skills, possess strong critical reasoning skills, grasp technical concepts and maintain attention to detail.
•    You have an ability to think creatively to solve problems and to work without being closely managed.
•    You can communicate confidently in settings ranging from large group events to meetings with senior leaders.
