The role The Statutory Reporting and Policy Stream provides advice and support at a whole of agency consolidated level to the various program and business areas on the agency’s statutory reporting requirements, processes and obligations. In accordance with the statutory requirements of the Financial Accountability Act 2009 and other relevant Acts, Schedules and policies, its functional responsibilities will include the project management and preparation of the annual financial statements together plus directing, advising and reporting on all Departmental taxation matters to ensure compliance.
This function is also responsible for developing and implementing financial management and accounting policies and procedures, along with effectively communicating and working with the Systems and Services stream to deliver required training programs

Key responsibilities
- Provision of high level technical assistance in the the preparation of the department's annual financial statements in accordance with Queensland Treasury and other prescribed requirements.
- Prepare, review and submit quarterly and annual financial reporting packages to Queensland Treasury (i.e. Tridata).
- Oversee the identification and regular reconciliation of complex inter-business area transactions within the Department.
- Provide high level professional advice on financial policy initiatives and reporting on accounting guidelines, exposure drafts and accounting standards.
- Provide high level professional and strategic advice and direction to finance staff, service areas and shared service providers in relation to financial accounting, reporting and governance and participate in the development and implementation of accounting solutions for various service delivery and financial issues and proposals.
- Maintain and update the department's Financial Management Practice Manual and other departmental financial policies and procedures . Assist in maintaining the department's financial governance framework to foster best financial management practice
- Prepare Departmental financial submissions and provide advice to management as required.
- Maintain effective working relationships with the Qld Audit Office, internal audit unit, Queensland Treasury and other clients and stakeholders in respect of financial governance, accounting, reporting and governance issues.
