We are looking for an experienced Principal Policy Planner to join the Department Planning, Lands and Heritage’s (DPLH) Land Use Planning Policy team within our Strategy and Engagement division.
Our Principal Policy Planner is responsible for the coordination, design, development and review of land use planning policies and related instruments. They also lead the analysis of complex planning matters to identify opportunities for reform of legislative and policy frameworks. They provide expert policy, program and information advice to Department and Minister and facilitate the appropriate interpretation and implementation of programs and policies to support the agency and Government policy initiatives. strategies and projects.
You will also manage major policy planning matters and project activities to support the effective implementation of policy initiatives.
This is a fixed term, full-time position until June 2026. This process may be used to fill future similar permanent or fixed-term positions that may arise across the Department and WA public sector in the next 12 months from the initial date of appointment.
Located in Perth CBD in a convenient location, above the Perth Underground rail, close to the Wellington Street Bus Station and City CAT services.
To be successful for this position, you need to demonstrate:

  • A degree in Urban and Regional Studies or Urban and Regional Planning or an approved equivalent (including Environmental Science or similar) degree relevant to planning.
  • Demonstrated experience in strategic planning or complex policy development, supported by a sound knowledge of land use planning practice, legislation and policy.
  • Demonstrated ability to acquire meaningful knowledge and understanding of different subject matters quickly and the ability to analyse the situation, identify issues and provide strategic advice on this acquired knowledge.
  • Highly developed conceptual and analytical skills and the ability to communicate findings through various formats to a range of audiences.
  • Demonstrate the behaviours within the leadership context of Leading Others as outlined below.
