Period of Appointment
Fixed term full time for 24 months
Hours per fortnight
73.50 hours per fortnight - flexible options available.
Duties

  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with key internal and external stakeholders to facilitate collaboration, information exchange and timely expert responses to matters of reportable conduct and compliance with the Child Safe Standards. Building effective relationships with representatives of key agencies across the Office's workforce is a critical component of the role and will be integral to its success. Priority areas will include supporting the facilitation of systemic cultural change and sector improvement in the promotion and implementation of the Child Safe Standards and the Reportable Conduct regulatory scheme. This includes review of all guidance material and advice provided by the Office under both regulatory schemes.
  • Representing the Independent Regulator in undertaking prosecutions related to offences pursuant to the provisions of the Child and Youth Safe Organisations Act, 2023.
  • Provide comprehensive, accurate and timely advice to the Independent Regulator and the leadership team on legal responsibilities pertaining to the Office.
  • Provide comprehensive advice on drafting and issuing coercive notices to organisations, improvement plans relating to organisational policy.
  • Providing comprehensive advice to the Independent Regulator or their delegates on high risk and or complex child protection matters, as well as advising on best practice investigative methods.
  • Working closely with both internal and external stakeholders and the Office's Education, Engagement and Policy stream to build compliance with standards in a range of organisations.
Essential Requirements
  • Admitted or eligible for admission as a Barrister or Practitioner of the Supreme Court of Tasmania
  • A current Tasmanian Registration to Work with Vulnerable People
  • Pre-employment check.

Desirable Requirements
  • A minimum of seven years of relevant legal experience relevant to the duties of the position
  • Current driver's licence.
