Job description

An opportunity exists to become the new Principal Wellbeing Consultant, who will provide the primary subject matter expertise to work collaboratively with the Department of Regional Development, Manufacturing and Water to meet their obligations under the Workplace Health & Safety Act (2011) (Qld).
The position will help to manage and coordinate the Department's Employee Assistance Program and implement and monitor actions raised in the Department’s Mentally Healthy Workplace Strategy and other operational actions from the Health, Safety and Wellbeing team and broader Human Resource strategies and actions.

The position requires extensive knowledge and understanding of workplace health and safety legislation and wellbeing management practices to provide accurate and contemporary advice to both the unit and the department. It also requires a strong understanding and practical application of psychosocial and mental health interventions and strategies or ability to quickly acquire and apply to a project.
An understanding of safety management systems and standards, diverse workplace hazard identification and risk management strategies, and their application is also highly desired. Additionally, the position requires an ability to balance core operational support for a client group whilst managing delivery of state-wide project(s). It requires highly developed leadership skills, high level training facilitation skills, and highly effective written and oral communication skills.
The position is required to consult and influence departmental staff to support wellbeing initiatives. For example, the position will focus its influence on the Departments leadership to embed wellbeing initiatives and will contribute and collaborate with all work groups to help support their wellbeing initiatives and actions. Additionally, the position will need to establish networks and liaise with officers from other agencies and organisations to promote and monitor contemporary health and wellbeing initiatives. It will liaise and engage with a high level of professionalism with internal and external stakeholders and represents the department in a variety of forums, including delivering engaging wellbeing presentations and workshops.
The position is required to provide support and guidance to employees, to build capability regarding best practice approaches to supporting and improving staff health and wellbeing and it will be a point of contact for contractors, such as the Employee Assistance Program providers, to ensure contract requirements are met.
