Overview of the role

Nyrstar Port Pirie is seeking an experienced candidate who holds a Bachelor's and higher in a Chemical Engineering degree to join the Health, Safety and Hygiene team and who has an extensive knowledge of SafeWork Major Hazard Facilities applicable Regulations.

Supporting an industrial Major Hazard Facility of 800~ employees, this role manages the Process Safety Management effort across the Port Pirie Plant Complex; assists Plant Management with resolving, implementing and delegating the Process Safety Management requirements and provides subject matter expertise in Process Safety practices and maintains appropriate site Process Safety and Major Hazard Facility compliance.

This is a residential role, based in Port Pirie, South Australia on a Monday to Friday roster. Relocation assistance will be provided to the successful candidate if required.

Key responsibilities of the role include, and are not limited to:

• Support Management initiatives and ensure participation from all areas of responsibility
• Facilitate Process Safety Risk Assessments and propose feasible controls
• Maintain updated site Safety Case and ensure continual improvement
• Own site Process Safety management (PSM) program and perform site compliance audits
• Drive site Process Safety procedure implementation and improvement plan
• Support risk and controls owners in the implementation of the program and compliance with applicable regulations
• Set KPIs and track performance for PSM program compliance and improvement
• Assist with Process Safety training at the site
• Assist with implementation and verification of plant Process Safety programs
• Ensure the site major hazard facility license is maintained and liaise with site relevant teams and Regulator as needed.
• Ensure the provision of advice and support to stakeholders on Process Safety standards, procedures and compliance relevant to the position
• Undertake work on projects as requested by the Manager Safety, Health & Hygiene to meet safety compliance requirements

Qualifications/Experience & Abilities:

• Bachelor's and higher in a Chemical Engineering degree
• Extensive knowledge of SafeWork SA Major Hazard Facilities applicable Regulations
• 5+ years of site experience in Process Safety
• Demonstrable safety skills and safety mentality
• Intermediate computer skills including MS Office
• Knowledge of process risk assessment tools (Bow Tie, consequence model, PHA, HAZOP, etc)
