We are looking for a Procurement Specialistto join our Global Equipment and Diesel Transition Program procurement team.

This is a pivotal role leading the APAC Light Mobile Equipment (LME) procurement category. Reporting to the Global Category Manager – Mobile Equipment, this position presents an exceptional opportunity for an accomplished commercial professional with strong stakeholder engagement, procurement expertise, and proven commercial acumen to manage a multifaceted category covering ~A$130M across 20+ key suppliers spanning Rio Tinto’s Iron Ore, Dampier Salt, Copper and Aluminium business units.

The Procurement Specialist will play a crucial role in spearheading the global procurement strategy for LME electrification, driving forward Rio Tinto’s ambitious decarbonization goals. Additionally, you will be tasked with supporting the commercial negotiations for the future LV automation program and other cutting-edge technologies integral to the future of our LME fleet.

Reporting to the Category Manager, Mobile Equipment, your key responsibilities will include: 

  • Formulate and implement the APAC LME Category Strategy along with the corresponding global electric LME strategy, to align with Rio Tinto’s business and decarbonization objectives
  • Spearhead APAC LME sourcing initiatives, encompassing the negotiation, drafting, and execution of agreements for LME
  • Develop and maintain successful relationships regional and global suppliers within the LME category
  • Provide quality, timely information, advice and support internal stakeholders on the LME contracts, relationships and strategies employed and assist the team to achieve business objectives and support to resolve supply issues
  • Facilitating the collection of pertinent information for LME forecasting purposes, supply chain optimization, assessing business risks, and evaluating suppliers

About you

You will be an enthusiastic and motivated individual with a positive, can-do approach towards your work. Able to work autonomously, you will be excellent at building and maintaining strong stakeholder relationships to help achieve business objectives while being a natural problem solver. You will also have:

  • 5+ years background in strategic procurement, end-to-end procurement process, contracting and complex commercial evaluations
  • Strong engagement and collaboration skills in managing positive stakeholder relationships. 
  • Excellent negotiation, problem-solving, and project management skills
  • Ability to create and present engaging presentations
  • Experience in LME, innovation implementation and equipment electrification is desirable
  • Advanced skills with the Windows environment, including use of the MS Office suite, SAP or an equivalent ERP
  • Tertiary qualifications in business, finance, engineering, or a related discipline would be advantageous
