Product Development Chemist – Wetherill Park

The Opportunity  

We have a fantastic opportunity for Product Development Chemist to join our Gyprock product development team.  Reporting to the Head Development Chemist, this valuable experience will develop your skills in maintaining product quality and technical support, contributing to business objectives, and assisting in all areas of the operation to optimise plant performance. You will work cross functionally in the technical area of the business, identifying new initiatives, planning and undertaking lab development work, plant trials, testing, analysis and results reporting.  

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Ensure safe operation of the laboratory including maintenance of laboratory equipment
  • Prepare laboratory samples for testing, analysis, reporting and presentation of results
  • Controlled Laboratory formulation, pilot batch preparation and coordination of factory trials
  • Maintain product formulations, including Manufacturing, Raw Material, Product and Testing specifications
  • Ensure new raw materials are thoroughly tested, trialled and approved  
  • Support a broad range of Operational Improvement Projects
  • Reporting of new product development, raw material evaluation and operational improvement trials
  • Support marketing in line with product, technical and customer objectives
  • Provide technical support to internal and external customers
  • Promote the continuous improvement of processes to ensure the consistency of our products and services

Skills & Qualifications

  • Tertiary qualifications in Materials Science, Chemistry or equivalent
  • Up to 3 years of experience working on formulation and product development projects in a similar or coating, adhesives industry
  • Technical understanding and experience of formulating, sample preparation, mechanical, physical, and chemical testing techniques
  • High attention to detail
  • Ability to work on multiple projects concurrently
  • Motivation to learn, develop new skills, innovate and demonstrate new ideas
  • Effective communication skills with all levels of stakeholders

Hours of Work: Monday to Friday between 8:00am and 5:00pm
