Product Underwriting Manager

• Permanent role
• Lead a team of highly engaged and motivated portfolio and underwriting specialists
• Sydney, Brisbane or Melbourne CBD location

This exciting and rewarding role takes the lead across the Consumer Portfolio to manage the Underwriting strategy within risk appetite, monitoring market and risk developments, financial performance and the underwriting customer experience.

Key Responsibilities include but not limited to:

• Ensure a clear and documented approach to underwriting in compliance with internal policies and prudential guidance
• Within Consumer Portfolio, lead activities to ensure adequate, appropriate and effective underwriting controls exist to manage identified risks within tolerance
• Work with others to continue to automate underwriting guidelines and controls where relevant
• Manage underwriting guidelines through regular reviews to address underwriting risks
• Responsible for the Business License's for the Consumer Portfolio and ensuring this is cascaded via Delegated Underwriting Authorities within a well governed framework
• Apply a deep understanding of Industry developments to identify emerging risk to ensure underwriting strategy keeps pace with market developments and risks.

Skills & Experience:

• At least 5 years of experience in insurance, coupled with relevant qualifications
• Demonstrated knowledge of portfolio, underwriting and pricing practices and policies
• Expert understanding of the insurance industry, market environment and customer segment
• Expert knowledge of personal insurance products and knowledge of competitor activity and international trends
• Proven ability to lead a team to achieve individual, team and divisional goals
• Ability to coach and develop staff.
