DEPARTMENT
The Prosthetic and Orthotic Department in conjunction with the Amputee Unit aims to provide a full range of rehabilitation services to cater for the needs of clients with limb deficiencies, musculoskeletal and/or neuromuscular deformities. The service provides long term management and support, in partnership with local services. The service also focusses on the lifelong, evolving needs of people with amputation and prosthetic devices receiving NDIS funding.
THE ROLE
The overall objectives of this position is to provide high quality Prosthetic/Orthotic services to clientele referred to the Prosthetic and Orthotic Department. A large focus of this position will be to provide leadership to staff, including involvement in service development and quality improvement.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Conduct a comprehensive assessment and appropriate prosthetics management of patients and clients.
  • Demonstrate excellent knowledge of prosthetic and/or orthotic components, biomechanics, pathologies and clinical practices.
  • Active involvement in triage and allocation of clinical caseload (inpatient and outpatient)
  • Effectively manage a caseload in an efficient manner.
  • Utilize treatment protocols for pre and post-operative amputee rehabilitation based upon Best Practice Guidelines.
  • Proficient treatment of a broad range of limb deficient patients.
  • Competently manage administrative duties relating to patient management including medical records, quotes/justifications and billing.
  • Work and independently and autonomously as well as part of the multi-disciplinary teams' environment which strives for patient care at all times.
  • Provide supervision to clinicians, technicians and students.

  • Comprehensive understanding of prosthetic funding models and processes
  • Strong problem solving, project management and organisational skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide high level teaching, training and supervision to staff and students
  • Demonstrated understanding and commitment to principles of continuous quality improvement.
  • Demonstrated ability to evaluate and modify service delivery in accordance with evidence-based practice.
  • Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills to promote teamwork.
  • Demonstrated participation in professional development relevant to the position.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
Essential
  • Bachelor or Masters degree in Prosthetics and Orthotics with at least 7 years clinical experience
  • Current registration with the Australian Orthotic Prosthetic Association.
Desirable
  • Post Graduate qualifications in Orthotics/Prosthetics, public health, management or other relevant area.
  • Experience at a senior clinical and leadership level.
  • Knowledge of the public health system.
  • 2+ years' experience working with NDIS participants.
