Access theAbout the roleThe Registrar / Principal House Officer (PHO) provides medical services under the supervision of Consultant Psychiatrist that are evidence-based, efficient, effective and equitable to consumers within a public health setting. Registrar / PHOs are expected to acquire necessary skills and knowledge to satisfy the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (RANZCP) Australian Medical Board requirements in order to practice as a specialist.About youOur ideal candidate will be someone who can demonstrate the following:Principal House Officer
- Knowledge, expertise and skill in the assessment and clinical management of people with mental illness.
- Effective interpersonal, communication, negotiation and organisational skills including the ability to work effectively and efficiently within a multidisciplinary team.
- Demonstrated commitment to continuing professional education including development and maintenance of personal knowledge and skills.
- Understanding of and commitment to mental health recovery model of care, evidence based practice and continuous quality improvement to enhance service delivery outcomes.
- Knowledge (or the ability to rapidly acquire knowledge) of National and State Mental Health directions and legislation relevant to the provision of specialist mental health services.
- Advanced clinical skills in general medicine.
- Provides patient care by demonstrating qualities of maturity, empathy and time management as well as communicating soundly with patients.
- Develops own learning experience by seeking out opportunities to learn, attending learning programs and teaching others.
- Takes ownership of quality by actively identifying quality issues and addressing in an appropriate manner.
- Demonstrates sound time management and stress management skills.
- Demonstrates a willingness to work as part of a multidisciplinary team by respecting team members, communicating openly and taking an interest in helping team members.
- Vaccinated against, and remain vaccinated against, certain vaccine preventable diseases (VPD) as outlined in the
- Minimum requirement – completed two years postgraduate or the equivalent (i.e. if an internship is counted as undergraduate component of a medical degree – this internship can be counted as one postgraduate year) and completed a full term in Psychiatry (10 weeks- this experience can be gained overseas). Those who have finished basic training as per the requirements of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists will be given opportunities to complete advanced training in general adult psychiatry.
